4
Undergraduate Education:
My teaching experience begins in 1981 in the 2nd Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle
University of Thessaloniki where, parallel to my training in surgery, I tutored university students of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th year of studies, during their internship in the clinics, in the patients’ wards.
In the 4th Surgical Clinic which I joined in 1990, at first as a scientific associate, I had an active participation while teaching, training and guiding in surgery the university students and interns of the clinic, in the theoretical and practical lessons of their training and bibliographical updating as well as in all the training scientific activities of the Clinic.
Since 1997, after my election as a Lecturer of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki I joined full time in the 4th Surgical Clinic, up to the present time, I participate regularly in the formal educational schedule/program of the clinic, performing self-reliant educational work with the university students of the 6th, 7th and 11th semester, according to the program of studies of the Medical Department (teaching of lessons, reviewing research papers, conducting examinations and grading).
I also had and still have the responsibility of inspection of many dissertations of university students and participated in many research papers in university conferences.
Postgraduate Education – Postgraduate Programs of the Medical School:
From 1986 to 1990 I actively participated in the theoretical and practical education of the intern medical doctors of the Clinics, where I worked.
After my placement in 1990 in the 4th Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki as a Second Associate Doctor/ Curator [as an honorary/ voluntary scientific associate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for 5 years] and since 1998 as a
Lecturer, Associate or Assistant Professor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, I participate in the training of the interns both in their training in the patients’ wards and surgery, as well as in the teaching of various chapters of General Surgery and Invasive
Endoscopy of the Digestive System.
I contributed or contribute to 7 (seven) doctoral dissertations (thesis) of the Medical
School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as a supervisor Professor in two and in the rest as a member of the 3-member committee (original CV pp 22).
With the creation of the department of postgraduate studies in the Medical School of the
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2005-2006) (2007-2008) I participated in the teaching of the lesson “inflammatory disease of the colon-anus-Crohn disease” teaching the chapter “Crohn disease”.
I also participated and participate in the postgraduate programs of the Medical
Department and in the postgraduate lessons during congresses, conferences, symposiums, tutor lessons or workshops (19 programs on original CV pp 23) of the Greek Surgical
Society (2002-2004, 2006, 2007), of the Surgical Society of Northern Greece (2005), of the Greek Gastroenterology Society (2002-2004, 2008) or the Congress of Laparoscopic
Surgery (2005, 2009, 2011).
5
Solid Healthcare Surgical Work:
During my training in surgery, in the 424 General Military Hospital of Thessaloniki, in the General Hospital of Veroia and in the 2 nd Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where I worked, I unfailingly participated in the outpatient clinics, in the patients’ wards, in the surgery, in medical calls and in all the events of these Clinics.
In the Surgical Clinics, where I worked for many years as a special surgeon in the
General Hospital of Lamia, in the General Hospital of Naousa and as a 2 nd and 1 st associate surgeon, especially in the 4 th Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki, in the beginning as an associate surgeon and then as a Lecturer, Associate
Professor or Assistant Professor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, I conducted my solid surgical healthcare work by running, as the managing surgeon, an amount of procedures of all aspects of importance and of the whole range of Laparoscopic Surgery.
Within this surgical field I attended conferences and training seminars both in Greece and abroad.
Moreover, I served as a head associate surgeon of patients’ wards, outpatient clinics and general and inpatient medical calls.
Head of Invasive Endoscopic Laboratory:
For more than 20 years, apart from the solid surgical work and my responsibilities as
General Surgeon of the 4th Surgical Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, I conducted the organizing and I am responsible for the whole function of the Endoscopy
Laboratory of the 4th Surgical Clinic, as well as its progress and prospects.
During this period I fulfilled a great number [more than 5000] diagnostic and mainly invasive endoscopies of the upper digestive system (ERCP, endoscopic sphincterotomies, stents placement in common bile duct or esophagus, drainage of pancreatic pseudocyst, esophagic dilatation, percutaneous endoscope gastrostomy, coagulation of ulcer bleeding, polypectomies e. c.) or lower digestive system (colonoscopy, polypectomy, endoprothesies.,) to patients of our clinic, other clinics of our hospital, as well as many other hospitals of Thessaloniki and Northern Greece (which we cover in this field) or of
Greece in general. In the educational field our university students, apart from the theoretical lessons that are incorporated in the school program, observe the conduct of a range of invasive Endoscopies. In the meantime, interns or associate doctors of other clinics of district hospitals or of our hospital are trained in turns in the field of Invasive
Endoscopy.
The Invasive Endoscopy Laboratory at present is fully equipped with modern medical instruments both for the documentation or the analysis (computer software) of the results images and other evidence. Based on the material and the experience of our laboratory many research papers of endoscopy or of mixed surgical-endoscopy content have been presented in Greek or International conferences and have been published or have been accepted for publication in International or Greek medical journals, while based on the same material and clinical experience.
