H.M. THE QUEEN’S
DIAMOND JUBILEE
Saturday 9 June
The Isleworth Society is to host an evening’s
entertainment for its members entitled “Happy and
Glorious”.
Thursday 14 June
The Thursday Club, which meets on the second
Thursday of each month, will enjoy a special
Jubilee tea plus entertainment, aided by a
Hounslow Communities for All grant. If you don’t
normally attend the Thursday Club then please let
us know if you plan to attend on the 14 June so we
will have an idea of numbers to cater for.
E-mail to rosebunce@aol.com. Alternatively call
Rosemary on 020 8568 3721 or 07703 326480.
… and just to add to the Jubilee
celebrations bunting will adorn the front of
the building and the four hanging baskets
will be specially planted with a red, white and blue
colour scheme, as will the pots at the entrance.
Point of interest ….. the Jubilee events will be
held in the main hall, the actual name of which is
the Jubilee Hall. It was added to the original
building in 1887, paid for by public subscription, to
commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

A request to LBHounslow to use surplus money

the balance of the cost being met from the Friends’
funds accumulated over time through generous
donations and occasional events.

interesting and well-researched talk, “Isleworth –
Many Rivers to Cross”.
In February Stopgap gave an excellent
performance of “Passion Play”, a drama by Peter
Nicholls. Well done Stopgap.

Hanging Baskets
Our
continued thanks to the
Rugby
Football Union for their
annual
donation used to part
fund the
twice yearly planting of
the hanging baskets which greatly enhance the
exterior of the building.
AND ALMOST LAST BUT NOT LEAST…..
FUTURE OF FUTURE OF ISLEWORTH PUBLIC HALL
We have left this item until almost last because
unfortunately we have nothing positive to report.
Despite assurances from Councillors that it will not
be closed, there has been no further progress.
However,
we understand Councillors
are
considering proposals to revamp the original Vestry
Hall and Reading Room Trust to incorporate the St
John’s Centre with the ‘yet to be found’ new
trustees managing both venues! It is of great
concern, but of no surprise, that Councillors have
failed to discuss this proposal with the people
involved i.e. the committees of The Friends of IPH
and the St John’s Centre. Yet again another
example of the principle of community involvement
being completely ignored by Hounslow Council – it
seems they will decide what is best for the
community, without consulting the community, and
then present the community with a fait accompli.
THEY DESERVE A MEDAL!
Who?
Definitely not Hounslow
Council in this instance, but Kate
Manikon and her team at Fusion
who run Isleworth Public Hall and other community
venues on behalf of the LB of Hounslow.
Why? Because they are a committed team who,
for the past year, have worked with the worry of
what will happen to them if the contract is removed
from Fusion. As with others involved in this farcical
situation, no-one has bothered to discuss the
issues with them. Sadly, it appears that people no
longer count with the powers that be.
ALAS WE DON’T HAVE ANY MEDALS BUT WE
CAN GIVE THANKS TO KATE AND HER TEAM.
Plus a special thank you to Aga, our
resident caretaker at Isleworth Public
Hall. She keeps the building in shipshape condition, is always helpful and
willing to go the extra mile to ensure the venue is
so welcoming. Thanks Aga – we are very lucky to
have you.
WE NEED NEW MEMBERS SO

Isleworth Public Hall is a community venue,
built and paid for by public subscription.
We need as much support as possible to
ensure it remains open as a community
venue, as the original donors intended it
should be.
**If we don’t use it
we could lose it**
