As an end-user, it is your responsibility to verify equipment compliance when installed in your process area. To fully understand additional exposure to potential safety risks and regulatory noncompliance, there is a need to clarify industry misperceptions about the requirements necessary to maintain product compliance to certification requirements for electrical equipment and instrumentation used in hazardous (classified) locations. This paper and presentation offers information and guidelines to assist safety managers and engineers in better understanding and addressing potential electrical and electronic instrumentation safety issues associated with salvaged, remanufactured and new-surplus products, including compliance to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.307.
