If you would still like to send some you could email them to me or bring in a USB stick or CD. Thanks. It has been noticed by some that pictures of school related activities are being posted on Facebook. There are some who are concerned because they do not post pictures of their families on Facebook but find that they are being included in other's people pictures, (group photos etc.) Some may not mind if these pictures are posted; however, with today's society and social media there are others who would like to keep their life a little less public. If you’re posting on social media, it’s polite to ask permission if your pictures include other people’s children. School policy for students is that they are not to post pictures of school-related activities on social media. Our Toronto Zoo trip is planned for Wed. June 5. Did you receive the information? Our Math facts are addition and subtraction this coming week. For the week of our Toronto Zoo trip, I would like each student to present a few interesting facts about a zoo animal. Those animal names will be our spelling words for that week. Please assist your child with their animal. Several students still need practice at home with math facts and division. Look for more information and completed work on Monday. Blessings. Grade 3B – Miss Petersen Thanks for all your help with the long division, Parents. Most students are doing quite well with the process at this point, and even enjoying the challenge! Monday we will have a review, followed by a test on Tuesday. Wednesday we start a new unit on Fractions. That will be a nice change of pace. Today we spent time discussing the “ins and outs” of baseball. Weather permitting; we will attempt baseball games on Tuesday and Friday. If your child can bring a baseball glove and a bat (both items clearly labelled with name) on Monday, and leave these items at school for the rest of the week (we will take very good care of them), that would be great. If your child does not have access to these items and can’t borrow from someone, please don’t worry about it, we can share. “Blue, Grey, and Green” drawings were finished up in art class. Ask your child about the new words (bewildered, befuddled, helter-skelter, small-fry, rambunctious, etc.) they learned as we enjoyed a leisurely read through “Capyboppy”. We have had quite a few weeks in Gr. 7, and I’m glad that we can return to “normal” next week. Our Campfire trip was excellent. I appreciated the enthusiasm of the students; they were excited to be there and behaved very well. Today we also said our farewells to Miss Nordeman, who was with us for 4 weeks. We wish her the best as she takes up a teaching position at John Calvin School in Smithville. Next week, we will be learning Philippians 4:8-9 for Memory Work. This will be our last assignment of the year, and we will have our final Term 3 test on June 7. In Church History, we have just started studying Charlemagne. He was the most influential person in 500 years of European history, the first Holy Roman Emperor, and a distant ancestor of Mr. Vander Deen (43 generations removed). In Math, we have started a unit on 3 dimensional geometry. We are continuing our look at the atmosphere in science. Students are asked to bring tall and narrow jars (wine bottles, cooler bottles, or olive oil bottles look a bit better than beer bottles, but do what you can) so that we can make our own thermometers in the next week and start measuring the conditions of the atmosphere. Music: Many music logs have yet to be submitted. Please ensure that your child has this assignment completed. Grade 7B – Mr. Slingerland We had a great time in Campfire last week and are thankful for a fun and safe trip. We also appreciate all of the parents that volunteered to come along to Campfire and Mountsburg. We'll be looking at life as an Upper Canadian settler in History. In Church History we will be looking at the life of John Wycliffe. Our memory work for next week is Psalm 16:89. Students will be presenting their booktalks this week as well. From Mr. Isaac Literature – The Bronze Bow, chapters 10-13 reading comprehension and vocabulary next week. Science – Students wrote their “Fluids in Motion” unit test this past week with mixed results. While some students did quite well, there were some who appeared to have ‘forgotten’ about the test and didn’t study. As a result, students have been given the option to write a make-up test that will be weighted to determine their overall unit mark. This will be administered on Monday, May 27. After this, our next science unit is focused on heat. Music: Many music logs have yet to be submitted. Please ensure that your child has this assignment completed. Grade 8B – Mr. Verburg Memory work is Haggai 1:6. Art assignments are due on Monday. A science test is scheduled for Tuesday May 28 on Heat. A reminder that the information meeting for Algonquin is on Tuesday night as well. Music: Many music logs have yet to be submitted. Please ensure that your child has this assignment completed. Secondary News Gr. 12 Students Please bring in your cheques for the Quebec trip ASAP. They were due last Friday. Mrs. Bouwers Art 9 We have begun our last unit on Art History and on Tuesday we hope to visit the Art Gallery in Jordan. We will need the 8.5 x 11 pieces of cardboard (cereal box type) for our final art project. Sketchbook #14 is a detailed drawing of a piece of furniture (show texture in wood grain and shading). Mr. Huizenga Biology 12 How do you store information? DNA, a humble molecule comprised of atoms, is said to store volumes of information. For their last assignment, students will be pondering God’s handiwork in creating this blueprint for our cells. Chemistry 11 The penultimate test was written today. Through labs and problems, we will be looking at the ideal gas law. As a law, this expression relates four variables and demonstrates how God upholds His creation. Mr. Isaac World Religions 11 Students’ Jewish holy days presentations will be completed early next week before they write a short test based on this subunit of study. Once that has been completed, we have only a couple more lessons focused on key Jewish beliefs before we end off our in-depth study of Judaism. Physical Education 12 The grade 12 students have been introduced to touch rugby this past week. As a new game to all of them, it has taken a couple of classes to come to terms with some key principles of the game, and we will continue to work at making these more intuitive as we move on next week. Students have also been provided with official rules for touch rugby that they will need to be familiar with in preparation for their rules test at the end of the unit. Students are also once again reminded to be in proper phys. ed. attire as this appears to be an ongoing issue for some in this class. Mr. Pols PPL4O The grade 10 class has now begun playing baseball. Please remember to bring gloves this week. CGW4U The students will continue to look at the economics of countries and how they are tied together. CGC1D The students are looking at Canadian industries and how they are tied to the region of Canada. Their trip across Canada is due Friday, May 31. Mr. Stares Biology 11 We finished our unit on plants with a test today. An article review is due next Friday. We will take a look at genetics in the week to come, and hope to open up some little pigs. Exams are coming quickly. Math 9P/D Equations of lines can be a bit confusing, but we are giving it a good shot. We will finish up this unit next week and begin to wrap up and review for exams. Encourage your child to seek help when problems arise. Math 10P/D Applieds and Academics have an assignment due next Tuesday and a test scheduled for Wednesday. We will cover a few more things and begin our final review for exams. Overdue assignments must be handed in this week. Students should be reviewing regularly and seeking help when it is needed. Miss teBokkel English 9 We are continuing our study of Huck Finn and students should be staying up-to-date with their reading questions. We hope to be introduced to the unit assignment by the end of next week. Students should be preparing AND starting to study for exams—reviewing terms and notes from the beginning of the year is an excellent step. Canadian History 10 Because of scheduling conflicts, our unit test has been postponed until Tuesday, May 28. Students have received their unit assignment (due Tuesday, May 28) and should be setting time aside to work on this at home. They also will be writing a 1 page journal response for their trip to the Holocaust centre. Students should be preparing AND starting to study for exams— reviewing terms and notes from the beginning of the year is an excellent step. Canadian Geography 9 We have started our fourth and last unit, and have been discussing Canada's Economic and Resource Connections. We will be continuing our discussion of this next week with a look at Canada's energy uses, the bottled water debate, and ecological sustainability. Students should be preparing AND starting to study for exams—reviewing terms and notes from the beginning of the year is an excellent step. Mr. Zylstra English 12U We are well on our way through our ISU presentations. At this pace we should be having our final test late next week. Keep doing your best for the remainder of the semester! English 9 Our reading of "The Adventures of Huck Finn" is proceeding very well. Students who are absent are reminded to keep up the materials missed when they are gone. Speech As we begin looking forward to the end of the year, students should begin planning their final presentations. The final presentation is worth 15% of their overall mark and should be taken very seriously.
