Course description:

Yearbook: This is a course in writing and editing, on-line designing,
digital photography and web based design. Students serve as staff for a
school publication. Some after school hours, late nights, weekday/end
sports and special event photography a must.

Hawk Eye Newspaper: This course concentrates on in-depth writing
and editing, and students will achieve a moderate level of expertise
in desktop publishing and digital photography. The history of
American journalism is also included.

Photojournalism: Digital photography for journalistic purposes is studied.
Students will plan digital photographs in relation to assignments from the
instructor, illustrate events with appropriate photos and captions and will
sequence photos. They will learn to operate digital cameras as well as
upload to computers and save digital images. In addition, students will
apply journalistic principals of writing lead-ins and captions and crop and
scale digital images with some Photoshop basic skills.
Prerequisites:
Yearbook – strong English background and teacher/counselor approval
Newspaper/journalism strong English background and teacher /counselor
approval
Photojournalism – keyboarding/minimal computer skills
Course objectives: Organize and produce a school sponsored publication,
learn student press law and ethics, learn and practice writing, interviewing
and some basic photography skills, learn basic web layout and practice
using Yearbook Avenue on-line, identify staff member roles, work
productively in a group setting.
