When you look at the Sacred Host you understand how much Jesus loves you now.” Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Pope Pius XI instituted the feast of Christ the King in 1925 to combat the disturbing growth of secular as well as atheistic thinking around the world. Many rulers and peoples in various countries had fallen dangerously prey to the notion that mankind could manage just fine without God, thank you. This trend is increasing with the rise of the individual as ‘king’ where truth and morals becomes subjective. The Solemnity of Christ the King is to serve as an antidote to such temptation, by reasserting the truth about the authority and power of Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Rev.19:16). Pope Francis reminded the congregation at this Mass last year “Today’s liturgy invites us to fix our gaze on Christ, the King of the Universe. The beautiful prayer of the Preface reminds us that his kingdom is “a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace”. The readings we have listened to show us how Jesus established his kingdom; how he brings it about in history; and what he now asks of us.” The Holy Father continued in his homily, to talk about conversion and living as subjects of Christ who is our King. To help us in this endeavour let us pray this prayer with love and faith: O Jesus Christ, I acknowledge you as Universal King. All that has been made has been created for You. Exercise all Your rights over me. I renew my Baptismal Vows. I renounce Satan, his pomps and his works; I promise to live as a good Christian. And, in particular do I pledge myself to labour, to the best of my ability, for the triumph of the rights of God and of Your Church. Divine Heart of Jesus, to You do I offer my poor services, labouring that all hearts may acknowledge Your sacred kingship, and that thus the reign of Your peace be established throughout the whole universe. Contents may be tea bags, coffee, sweets etc. Just take a container and enjoy the contents. All we ask is that you consider saving any spare change, that you may have, in the container and when ready, pass it to the Lourdes Group (details on each container). It’s as easy as that – there’s no obligation to donate! Containers available for the next few weeks at least. Also, the group hopes to have baubles, for this year’s Tree of Wishes, available in all churches from next weekend and throughout Advent.
