Classroom Behavior Management Plan 08-09 MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: REASON: Teachers B. Yates Teacher Behavior Management System Teachers: JCCHS students are expected to and are held responsible for following reasonable requests of staff. In most instances students will meet your expectations and follow your instructions when they are clear, reasonable and free of sarcasm and ridicule. So please be clear and specific in your expectations, requests, instructions, directions and procedures. It is the schools position that any student whom does not comply with such requests/instructions does so for one of two reasons. 1. 2. The student does not understand the request or instructions The student chooses not to follow the request or instructions. If you determine the student’s choice was not to follow your request/instruction please give consideration to your procedures (Behavior Manage Plan) in handling the situation. Behavior management is most effective when there are five levels of consequences leading to administrative referral. Obviously, there are automatic overrides to the step process when a severe problem occurs. SAMPLE FIVE STEP BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT PLAN: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Warning indicated by name on board. Please complete the reverse side of this form and return to Mr. Yates by 3:15 pm Friday, (8-5-08), for plan approval. After your plan has been approved, post the plan in your classroom. TEACHER DISCIPLINE PROTOCAL Teachers are asked to adhere to the following protocol when considering disciplinary action. 1. Minor classroom disruptions and classroom management problems should be handled by the teacher following their five step “Behavior Management Plan”. When the teachers five step Behavior Management System has been exhausted do not send students to the office instead complete an online discipline referral and the students(s) will be dealt with by an administrator as soon as possible. Check with administration if you have not received a copy of the completed referral within three days. 2. If a serious classroom problem arises (fighting, refusing to follow teachers instructions or disrespect to a teacher) call the office and ask for an administrator who will come to your classroom for the student(s). Do not send students to the office. 3. Male dress code violations should be sent to a male administrator. Female dress code violations should be sent to a female administrator. 4. Teachers may use after school detention as a discipline method in their own classroom. Because a large percentage of students are bus transported, one day’s notice must be given. School wide detention will only be used for tardiest and administration referrals. ADMINISTRATIVE REFERRALS When it is necessary to impose discipline, administrators will follow a progressive and age appropriate discipline process. The degree of discipline imposed by each school official will be in proportion to the severity of the behavior of a particular student and will take into account the age of the student and other relevant factors.
