Local Folklore - The ringfort of Druminalass On a farm in Druminalass stands an old ring fort. It is about 4 feet higher than the land around it. A thick clay ditch in which stout trees are growing encloses it. There is an old story about a man named Hugh Loughlin who went to this fort one time to cut firewood. He climbed up one of the trees to cut some of the branches with a hatchet. When he had a few branches cut his hatchet dropped to the ground. He was wondering how he would get it when he heard a voice saying, ‘Here is your hatchet’. But he could see no one! Then the hatchet was lifted up to him. He was so frightened that he never went to the fort again.
