PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR FROM NOVEMBER 2003 AND
CONSULTANT ANAESTHESIOLOGIST FROM MARCH 2003 TO
PRESENT.
King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH) is a 800-bed teaching hospital
providing training for under graduate and postgraduate medical students. It has
fourteen operating rooms and a ten bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, managed by
the department of Anesthetics. The operating rooms and SICU are provided with
the state of art technology. As a consultant the responsibilities include heading
operating (55 hour/Week) lists and supervising specialist registrars, residents and
interns. As an Assistant Professor my responsibilities include arranging the
residency lectures and encouraging the residents to participate in research
activities, I am also incharge of administrating anaesthesia in the MRI suite for
paediatric patients twice a week and to manage the anaesthetic care outside OR.
In this hospital I have gained experience in administering anesthesia to cases
such as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, Valve Replacements, Pediatric
congenital heart surgery, Posterior Cranial Fossa surgery, Clipping of Aneurysm,
Surgery for Aortic Aneurysms, ESWL, Obstetric procedures including Labor
analgesia services, Laproscopic surgery and Neonatal and Paediatric surgery. I

am a member of the CPR team during my round the clock duties and cover the
SICU. I have the additional responsibility of teaching medical students, interns
and the anesthesia residents both in the class room a well as in the operating
rooms. I am also an instructor in both Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic
Life Support Courses conducted by the Saudi Heart Association under guidance
of American Heart Association.

In the hospital already described above I have held the post of Senior Registrar
for a period of 2 years and the responsibilities included anesthetizing patients for
different specialties either individually or under the supervision of a consultant. I
also held the post of Acting Senior registrar and Resident in the King Saud
Fellowship Award in Anesthesia and ICU. In the process of this residency
training I completed FFARCSI Part I in September 2000, Arab Board
Specialization in Anesthesia and ICU in October 2001 and IELTS in August
2001.

IN KING SAUD FELLOWSHIP.
King Saud Fellowship Program is a four years post-graduation course in
Anaesthesia with a yearly promotional examination. The panel of examiners
included Dr.David Bevan Professor and Head of Department ofAnaesthesia
University of British Columbia Canada also editor of Canadian Journal of
Anaesthesia, Dr.Dhafir Al Khudiari, Director, Prince Sultan Cardiac Center
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and also a FFARCSI examiner. Dr. Hasan H. Ali,
Professor of Anaesthesia Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts USA, Dr.
Adalph H. Giesecke Professor of Anaesthesia University of Texas USA. Dr.
Dennis C. Moriarty Professor of Anaesthesia Master Misericordiae Hospital,
Dublin, Ireland. The panel also included of internal examiners namely Professor
Mohamed A. Seraj Chairman Department of Anaesthesia and ICU, Professor
Mohamed Naguib, Professor Mohammed Takrouri, Professor Amir B. Channa.
I have also gained experience in King Faisal Specialist Hospital (Paediatric
Cardiac Anaesthesia), Prince Sultan Cardiac Center, (Adult and Paediatric

Cardiac Anaesthesia) and King Abdul Aziz University Hospital, (ENT and
Ophthalmology) as part of rotation for the award of King Saud Fellowship.
July 1993 to January 1995
I was employed as a Consultant Anaesthesiologist in the Department Anaesthesia at ST.
Martha’s Hospital Bangalore. This is a six hundred bed Christian Missionary Hospital
in the Silicon Valley of India established by the Good Sheperd Convent in 1886. The
hospital is a charitable institution providing good medical and surgical facilities to poor
and needy patients. The facilities included General Surgery, Urology, Obstetric and
Gynaecology, ENT and Opthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Thoracic
Surgery, Paediatric surgery and a 10 bed ITU. I had the responsibilty of anaesthetizing
patients individually and supervising residents in both practical and academic activities.
July 1991 to July 1993
Resident in the Department of Anaesthesia, Kasturba Medical College towards
award of degree of MD in anaesthesia. The college was attached to Wenlock
District Hospital, Lady Goschen Maternity Hospital and TMA Pai Rotary
Hospital with total bed strength of well over 1200 beds. This college is the wellestablished medical colleges in India founded in 1950. The hospitals provide
services to the whole of southwestern coastal area, with super-specialized
hospitals with state of the art facilities. It has both private hospital beds and beds
which are free of cost for needy patients with facilities such as CT scan, MRI and
most modern operating rooms. I was granted an exemption of one year as I had
completed Diploma in Anaesthesia from the same institution. The residency
included rotation in the Cardiac Anaesthesia and the ICU. I presented the study
“The Effect of Temperature of Bupivacaine on the spread of Spinal
Anaesthesia”. These hospitals have all the specialties like General Surgery,
Urology, Paediatric Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Neuro Surgery, ENT,
Ophthalmology, the Obstetric hospital was the Lady Goschen Hospital providing
Labor analgesia and post operative epidural pain relief services.
March 1991 to July 1991
Registrar in the Department of Anaesthesia ST. Martha’s Hospital, I had the
same responsibilities as mentioned before but under the supervision of a
Consultant Anaesthetist.

Resident in the Department of Anaesthesia Kasturba Medical College Mangalore
for Diploma in Anaethesia a two-year residency program. I was attached to the
same hospitals as mentioned in the MD course and went through the same
rotation except Cardiac Anaesthesia rotation, and did not present any study.
September 1982 to October 1987
Medical Student in Dr.B.R. Medical College, under Bangalore University. This
college was attached to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital with bed strength of
six hundred. This hospital was established in the late 1880 during the British era
and is one of the most reputed hospitals in Bangalore City.
October 1987 to October 1988
Internship in Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and KC General Hospital
Bangalore in Medicine for a period of six months including rural posting in
villages around Bangalore city. Surgery for a period of four months in the
hospitals mentioned above including Orthopaedics, Obstetric and Gynaecology
and rest of the posting included in the rural posting as Family Planning Program.
I have assisted in Tubectomies and inserting IUCDs during this period.
JOB CAPABILITIES
1. Pre-operative evaluation especially cardiac status and interpretation of the
Pulmonary function tests.
2. Insertion of Double lumen tubes and confirmation of placement by Fiber
Optic Bronchoscope.
3. Fiber Optic Bronchoscopy for pulmonary toilet in the ICU.
4. Insertion of Pulmonary Floatation catheter and interpretation of data.
5. Obstetric Combined Spinal Epidural as well as Epidural analgesia.
6. Management of patients on mechanical ventilation and sedation in the ICU.
7. Management of cases for Interventional Radiological procedures in CT, MRI,
Angiography, Cardiac Catherterization in Pediatric Cardiac patients.
