High Tech Seminar organised in Moscow by the Cyprus Ministry of Commerce,
Industry and Tourism and the Association of Engineering Education of Russia
INFORMATION
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Cyprus and the Association of
Engineering Education of Russia organised a seminar and an exhibition at the Ministry
of Education of Russia on Tuesday 21 March, 2000 and Wednesday 2 March, 2000,
on the issue of:
COOPERATION BETWEEN CYPRUS AND RUSSIA IN THE CONTEXT OF
THE NEW INDUSTRIAL POLICY OF CYPRUS FOR THE DEVLOPMENT OF
HIGH TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRIES
Organisers:
On the Cyprus side: Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Planning Bureau,
Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cyprus Industrialists and Employers
Federation, University of Cyprus, Institute of Technology and Foundation for the
Promotion of Research.
On the Russian side: Ministry of Education of Russia, Ministry of Science and
Technologies of Russia, Russian Academy of Sciences, Association of Engineering
Education of Russia and Association of Technical Universities of Russia.
Seminar and Exhibition Objectives
The main objectives of the seminar were:
 to provide information to interested groups in Russia (researchers and educational
institutions) on the policy of Cyprus concerning the development of high technology
industry
 to provide information to representatives of interested parties of Cyprus on the
Russian innovation potential
 to exchange views on possible forms of cooperation between the two countries in the
development of new high technology industries

The objective of the exhibition was to demonstrate, through selected pilot projects, the
potential for technological innovation in Russia, which may lead, to the development of
marketable high technology products.
The desirable fields of pilot projects for submission to the exhibition are as follows:









Electronics engineering and microelectronics
Information technologies
Laser technologies
Telecommunications
Biotechnology and molecular biology
Medical electronics engineering
Materials science
Restored power sources
Environmental protection
The participation form should be duly completed (see Appendix 5) and returned by
February 20, 2000 by E-Mail in two addresses:

During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to visit exhibitions, universities and
institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science
Technologies.
The seminar was addressed to: Russian and Cypriot scientific and tertiary
education/research institutions, banks, enterprises, consultants and public services.
Language: The seminar was conducted in the Russian and English language. There
were simultaneous translation.
Location: The seminar and exhibition were both held in the Collegium Hall of Ministry
of Education on address: 51, Lusinovskaya Str., Moscow
