Project Management Institute - New York City Chapter Role Description: Volunteer – Programs Career Development Network Position Description Volunteers for the Career Development Network (CDN) report to the CDN Program Manager or Assistant Program Manager, and contribute to the CDN program and its events. See Responsibilities below for details. Program Goals The CDN Program consists of nine (9) events per year, which provide career enhancement opportunities for PMINYC members to acquire new skills and network with career professionals. Each event includes networking and a presentation or activity on a subject of interest by speakers chosen accordingly. CDN events specifically address skills and information to assist members with their job search and career advancement in the field of project management. Events will emphasize interactive learning experiences as much as possible, such as workshops, hands-on activities and career panels. Presenters may be experts on the topic or drawn from PMINYC members acting as mentors. The focus for 2016 events will be the Career Forum Series. 2016 CDN Programs: Career Forum – series of panel discussions by industry experts Skills workshops – alternating with Career Forum; topics to be decided 2015 CDN Programs: Certifications for Project Managers ((May 11, 2015) Working Out Loud (September 30, 2015) Public Speaking for Project Managers – collaboration with Toast Masters (November 9, 2015) Responsibilities Actively participate in CDN meeting event activities (may include the following, depending on the program needs and venue requirements): Planning: attend planning meetings, help with arrangements for speakers, prepare handouts, publicize meetings, create slide decks, coordinate logistics for venue and catering, assist Program Manager as needed Setup: post sign/banner, turn on lights, music, confirm catering order arrived and displayed in appropriate location, dry-run through Speaker’s presentation; meet/greet Leadership team, Speaker, Sponsor(s) Monitor: assist members, speaker, sponsor(s), leadership team with any needs as they arise; ensure timing remains on schedule for activities (moving from networking to Speaker’s presentation), provide microphone for Q&A Revised: December 2, 2015 Project Management Institute - New York City Chapter Closeout : thank members for attending, clean up any plates/cups left in chairs/floor to garbage, ensure system, music, lights, are closed down by venue closing time and all attendees have vacated Lessons Learned: Share comments and suggestions, review survey results, identify areas for improvement to future events Anticipated Benefits to Volunteer No Fee to attend CDN meeting when “working” the event Discounted fee as volunteer to other PMINYC meetings and events Earn PDU’s Opportunity to enhance communication skills, increase professional development, find networking opportunities and grow as a member of the PMINYC Volunteer Team Position Requirements Skills Required Interest in Project Management Commitment to professional development and continuing education Communication and organizational skills Familiarity with MS Office software, Google tools, and social media Team Player able to work independently and as part of a group Commitment Required Attend and actively participate in at least 50% of all CDN Program meetings Participate in planning meetings/activities as needed, either in-person or via teleconference Observe time commitment to the program (4–5 hours per event) Contact for Further Information: Mimi Rosenfeld, Program Manager, Career Development Network cdn@pminyc.org Julia Murphy, VP, Professional Development vppd@pminyc.org Revised: December 2, 2015
