A Proud Community Growing Together M ED IA R ELEASE 22 January 2016 Melton Resale Centre temporarily closed The Melton Resale Centre is undergoing refurbishment and is now closed until May 2016. The centre, located at the Melton Recycling Facility on Ferris Road, Melton South, works like an op-shop, where pre-loved household goods and furniture can be dropped off to enjoy a new lease of life. City of Melton Mayor, Cr Kathy Majdlik, said the refurbishment will enable many more reusable household goods and DIY materials to be diverted from landfill. “The refurbishment of the Resale Centre will benefit everyone, from those wanting to see their unused items go to another home to those who love to grab a bargain.” The Resale Centre expansion project will include a substantial extension to create a functional area for sorting newly-arrived goods, maximise indoor space so that more furniture can be accommodated, increase outdoor space for materials such as timber, metal and plumbing fixtures and encourage greater recovery of resaleable items via a dedicated stop-off zone. The popular monthly ‘Super Saturday’ sales will cease for the duration of the refurbishment works, however residents will still be able to drop off limited items to alternative storage locations at the Transfer Station. The Transfer Station will be open as normal and residents can still drop off batteries, paint, gas bottles and fluoro lighting for free at the temporarily relocated Permanent Drop-Off site (ask at the gatehouse). The progress of the refurbishment and more information is available at melton.vic.gov.au/waste or by calling Waste Services on 9747 7200.
