Description of the organisation : your R&D activities, your specializations, your researchers etc.
(max 1.000 characters):
The main theme of our research is to elucidate the role of functional food such as dietary fatty acids
or newly synthesized organic molecules in lipoprotein metabolism, oxidant/antioxidant status and
T-cells activation which might be involved in the pathology of several diseases like diabetes and
obesity. We are studying now obesity, on multidisciplinary approaches including genetics, life style,
epidemiology, nutrition and physiology. Special attention is given to infantile obesity and early
marks of oxidant stress, accounting for an increased risk of adult metabolic diseases. Dietary
managements are proposed to prevent metabolic alterations related to infantile obesity.

Infantile obesity is associated to several metabolic alterations including
dyslipidemia, immune dysfunction and oxidant stress. Nutritional
survey, lipoprotein metabolism assessment and determination of
oxidant/antioxidant markers are necessary to improve our knowledge on
obesity and to propose nutritional preventive strategies against this

metabolic disease.
The crucial question is whether n-3 PUFA supplementation can prevent
or ameliorate lipoprotein profile, immune function and
oxidant/antioxidant status in obese children. Could supplementation of
diet with n-3 PUFA during childhood exert beneficial effects in treating
the long term complications of obesity? Indeed, Could antioxidant
supplementation (vitamin, mineral) during childhood exert beneficial
effects in oxidant/antioxidant balance.
Further research is needed to establish the beneficial effects of n-3
PUFA and antioxidant supplementation in obese children.

What skills/results do you
expect from this
collaboration?
Main difficulties and
constraints to participate
in European projects?
Improve our knowledge on metabolic alterations associated to infantile
obesity, including lipoproteins, immune function and
oxidant/antioxidant status.
Participate to nutritional preventive strategies against infantile obesity
in order to reduce its prevalence and its long term consequences.
Difficulties to find EU partners or participants from abroad who share
our idea for a research project and with which we can cooperate.
