We are studying now obesity, on multidisciplinary approaches including genetics, life style, epidemiology, nutrition and physiology. Special attention is given to infantile obesity and early marks of oxidant stress, accounting for an increased risk of adult metabolic diseases. Dietary managements are proposed to prevent metabolic alterations related to infantile obesity. EXPERTISE Description of the expertise that your organization can contribute with to a European research project (max 2.000 characters) Lipoprotein metabolism, oxidant stress, nutritional survey, physiology and physiopathology involved in metabolic diseases like diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, HTA. Aging and metabolic alterations Utilization of animal models of diabetes and obesity. Nutritional survey, lipoprotein metabolism assessment and determination of oxidant/antioxidant markers are necessary to improve our knowledge on obesity and to propose nutritional preventive strategies against this 2/5 MEDA GO TO EUROPE Funded by the European Commission Research Organization profile form project) ORGANISATION LOGO metabolic disease. The crucial question is whether n-3 PUFA supplementation can prevent or ameliorate lipoprotein profile, immune function and oxidant/antioxidant status in obese children. Could supplementation of diet with n-3 PUFA during childhood exert beneficial effects in treating the long term complications of obesity? Indeed, Could antioxidant supplementation (vitamin, mineral) during childhood exert beneficial effects in oxidant/antioxidant balance. Further research is needed to establish the beneficial effects of n-3 PUFA and antioxidant supplementation in obese children. Participate to nutritional preventive strategies against infantile obesity in order to reduce its prevalence and its long term consequences. Difficulties to find EU partners or participants from abroad who share our idea for a research project and with which we can cooperate.
