CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership for a basketball team; establish coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student athletes’ skills and teamwork; analyze performance of basketball team and adjust strategies as needed. Perform public relations and marketing activities to promote the basketball program; plan and perform community relations activities. Oversee recruitment of student athletes. Develop policies and procedures for student athletes and coaches. Administer program budget, analyze funding needs, and plan fund raising activities to subsidize the basketball program. Develop strategies to foster athletic and academic progress of student athletes; counsel and advise student athletes with personal and academic problems. Perform related duties as assigned. REPORTS TO: Athletic Director LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION: Leadership of a small department, unit, or major function and/or direct supervision over administrative/professional employees. Page 1 Head Basketball Coach MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree; Master’s degree preferred; six to seven years progressively responsible experience coaching basketball. Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletics Association and Mid-American Conference rules and regulations. Skill in public relations; training or instructing student athletes; interpersonal communication. Ability to manage a budget and raise funds; analyze situations and develop solutions; travel and work nontraditional hours; provide leadership and direction.
