How to book a trip with cityWILD Step 1 - Plan Your Trip Visit http://adventures.citywild.org to learn about trip options or call 303-477-RAFT (7238). After reading about the trips (don’t forget to read our terms and conditions), decide which trip suits you best. Utilize the Group Planning Details section to help you make your final plan for your group. Additional things to keep in mind when planning your trip are: Group size- if booking a group the staff to youth ratio must be 6 to 1 or better. cityWILD can take a maximum of 24 on a trip at a time. Note about group sizes: We do not accept reservations of less than 10 people on the Arkansas River unless other boats are scheduled to raft that day/time. Our rafts can accommodate a maximum of 6 participants per boat (does not include guide). Our guides will not be responsible for behavioral problems, be prepared to put youth into groups that will be safe and cooperative. Many river accidents come as a result of youth rough housing. Trip Duration, Expect a full day, the Arkansas River is 2.5 hours from Denver plus your trip time of 4-6 hours depending on your trip. Step 2 - Book Your Trip Go to http://citywildrafting.civicore.com , click the Reservation Application Link and book your trip. cityWILD staff will contact you to confirm your trip and arrange for your deposit. cityWILD staff will add your trip to the online calendar. If you do not have access to the internet, call us when you are ready to book your trip so we can put you on our calendar and go over any questions that you may have. Follow up communication will continue until the day of trip at which your communications begin with the cityWILD Rafting Trip Leader. Upon confirmation please be aware of the following details regarding our Cancellation policy, the full policy is available online and in the guide: Your final count is due one week (7 days) prior to your trip, you are responsible for the ENTIRE cost of your trip per your final count numbers Your deposit is not refundable, if you cancel your trip one week (7 days) or more prior to the trip, you only forfeit your deposit cityWILD’s Terms and Conditions are online and in the Group Planning Details section of this guide. Step 5 - Day of Trip Make sure to have driving directions for your drivers ready. Be sure participants are well prepared with appropriate clothing and supplies for rafting as explained in the What to Bring and Wear section of this guide. Please bring the following: Trip Log Form, Participant Agreements, and Final Payment to give to the Trip Leader. Use the Check List at the end of this guide to prepare for an eventful day. Group Planning Details Trip Descriptions and Prices Browns Canyon: cityWILD's premier trip and the trip we take most often. The classic Rocky Mountain river trip with spectacular views of the Continental Divide and Sawatch Range, class II-III+ whitewater (depending on water levels), a remote desert canyon, and exciting rapids like Zoom Flume, Pinball, Widow-maker, Seidel's Suckhole. Three versions are offered; ½ Day - Fisherman's Bridge to Hecla = 9 miles, 3-4 hours pending river flow and lunch (if requested, not included. Lunch is $5 extra per person.) Full Day - Fisherman's Bridge to Stone Bridge = 12 miles, 5-6 hours depending on river flow. Includes Seidel's Suckhole and Twin Falls rapids. Lunch included. Overnight = 20 miles. Put in at Johnson Village and float all the way to Stone Bridge while spending the night camped along the river! Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast, lunch included. Stone Bridge to Salida: Full day - A calmer section of the Arkansas perfect for families and younger groups. This run has a couple of nice rapids as well as the fun and technical boat chute to bypass a fish hatchery dam. Distance = 10 miles, 5-6 hours depending on water flow. Lunch included. Big Bend to Salida: ½ Day float, this section bypasses the bigger rapids after Stone Bridge for a nice easy float into Salida, perfect for duckies (inflatable kayaks) but too much for a canoe! A great float trip. Distance = 7 miles, 3-4 hours depending on water flow and lunch (if requested). Your strict compliance with the Terms and Conditions below helps us achieve our goals of safety and dependability. When you make a reservation with cityWILD we hold your space for you, which means we often have to turn other rafters away. Therefore, we will make no exceptions to any of the following provisions. Deposit and Payment To make a reservation you must pay a nonrefundable deposit that is the lesser of $100.00 or 50% of the total price of your trip. The deposit will be applied toward the total price of your trip. The deposit is due at the time of booking. You MUST place a credit card number on file at the time of booking. If you book your trip seven (7) or fewer days prior to date of your trip, full payment is due at the time of booking. cityWILD accepts checks, credit cards, and PayPal for deposits. We do not accept cash deposits. The balance of your payment is due in cash, check, or by credit card when your group arrives on the date of your trip. The credit card on file will be charged if payment is not made on the date of your trip. cityWILD may accept a certified purchase order, but our express prior permission is required. Contact us in advance if you wish to pay with a certified purchase order. Final Count of Participants You must provide a “Final Count” of your participants no later than seven (7) days before the date of your trip. The Final Count cannot be reduced fewer than seven (7) days before the date of your trip regardless of how many in your party arrive on the date of your trip. The Final Count is used to schedule our guides, plan for your trip, and calculate the final price of your trip. cityWILD, in its sole discretion, may allow the Final Count to increase if we are able to accommodate the increase. Cancellation (a) Cancellation by Client If you cancel your reservation more than seven (7) days prior to the date of your trip you forfeit your deposit. If you cancel your reservation fewer than seven (7) days prior to the date of your trip, you are responsible for the total price based on your Final Count. You must call cityWILD at 303-477-RAFT (7238) or email raft@cityWILD.org to cancel your trip. Cancellations made after 5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) will be acknowledged as received on the next calendar day. For example, if your trip is scheduled for a Monday, you may cancel your trip before 5 p.m. MST on the previous Monday and be issued a credit. cityWILD will charge the credit card on file if the final payment is not received on or before the date of your trip. (b) Alteration by cityWILD cityWILD reserves the right to alter your trip in the event prohibitive or unsafe conditions exist or are expected to exist at the time of your trip. cityWILD may alter a trip in order to provide an experience of equal quality to the original trip. If your trip is altered, cityWILD may enforce its cancellation policy as set forth below. (C) Cancellation by cityWILD cityWILD reserves the right to cancel your trip in the event prohibitive or unsafe conditions exist or are expected to exist at the time of your trip. What to Bring & Expect CLOTHING Cotton is NOT a good material for outdoor activities. When it gets wet it is slow to dry. When you sweat in it, it keeps your body cool. Synthetics (fleece, capilene, polypropelene) and wool work even when they get wet. If you have your own warm river wear, please bring it (i.e. neoprene, booties,…) You provide: Bathing suit Nylon shorts (quick drying, not big heavy cotton shorts) Light colored T-shirt (dark colors are too hot in the sun) Sunglasses with straps Sunscreen and lip balm Sun hat (nothing too fancy, you could lose it on the river) Light-weight shoes that can be worn in the river (flip-flops are NOT ALLOWED, sandals must have straps to secure them around your heel) Warm layer – light to medium weight synthetic upper body layer Water We provide: Personal Flotation Device (PFD) a.k.a. life jacket Wetsuit Paddle Jacket (splash jacket) Helmet Booties (most sizes available) Lunch (only if you booked a trip with lunch) If you take any medications, please bring enough to supply you for the duration of your trip. If you have any medical conditions, please notify your trip leader and cityWILD staff prior to the activity. What to expect: The Arkansas River is true whitewater rafting with big rapids, cold water and big fun! Class II-III+ rapids can be expected (rapids are rated from I-V with Class I being small ripples.) Our trained staff makes sure safety is our #1 concern. All our guides go through extensive river training, basic first aid and CPR, and each guide meets or exceeds the required standards set by the state of Colorado. cityWILD has rafted thousands of children and adults on the Arkansas River and we specialize in working with youth. We provide the rafts. Each person receives a paddle and type V coast guard approved PFD (personal flotation device – “life jacket”) that is worn while on the river at all times. Although our guides navigate the rafts, paddling is part of the fun and a great team building activity. We are required by insurance regulations to have each participant sign a Liability Release waiver. All children under the age of 18 must have a signed release form from a parent or guardian. Water Flow Water Flow on the Arkansas River can vary greatly. For water flow above 2500 CFS, cityWILD only rafts individuals aged 14 years and older on Browns Canyon. Please discuss water flow with our river manager. Rafting activities are open to all participants who meet the following Essential Eligibility Criteria plus minimum age restrictions. In some cases these responsibilities can be met with the assistance of a companion. Participants with medical conditions should consult with their doctor prior to rafting. Participants rafting on the Arkansas River Browns Canyon section when water is above 2500 CFS must be 14 years old or older, or 10 years old all other times. Youth between the ages of 8-10 may be allowed at cityWILD’s discretion. Rafters on the South Platte River and the Stone Bridge to Salida section of the Arkansas must be at last 6yrs old and 45 lbs. Participants must be able to manage all personal care and mobility independently or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies them. Participants must be able to reach the boat launch area independently or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies them. Participants must be able to enter and exit the raft independently or with the assistance of a companion. Participants must be able to follow instructions and perform all water activities independently or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies them. Participants must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Wear all protective equipment recommended/required by industry standards Remain seated and balanced in a floating raft or kayak (ducky) with the use of adaptive equipment, if necessary. Adaptive equipment cannot impede nor lessen the effectiveness of the safety procedures or equipment. No one may be strapped or belted into a watercraft. In the event of capsize or fallout: get out from under the water craft, remain face up in the water with the aid of a personal flotation device (PFD), and identify and make progress to and ascend upon the shoreline. Enter and exit the raft or kayak independently or with the assistance of a companion. Have at least one person in kayak (ducky) with the ability to move the ducky through the water in a stable manner. Be comfortable in the water including floating on back independently with the aid of a PFD (life vest), turning from face down to face up independently with the aid of a PDF and holding their breath while under water. I acknowledge that my participation in hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, ropes course, river rafting, kayaking; fishing, and other outdoor adventure based activities entails known and unanticipated risks that could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death, or damage to myself, to property, or to third parties. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. The risks include, among other things: accidents involving the hazards of walking on uneven terrain; slips and falls, falling objects; collision with fixed or movable objects; weather conditions; head injuries can occur; slipping and falling; falling objects; water hazards; accidental drowning; whitewater rapids will be encountered; being jolted, jarred, bounce, and shaken about; exhaustion; rafts or boats capsize; exposure to temperature and weather extremes which could cause cold water shock, hypothermia, hyperthermia (heat related illnesses), heat exhaustion, sunburn, dehydration; and exposure to potentially dangerous wild animals, insect bites, and hazardous plant life; being impaled by a fishing hook; rope burns; pinches, scrapes, twists and jolts, scratches, bruises, sprains, lacerations, fractures, concussions, or even more severe life threatening hazards; equipment failure; and improper lifting or carrying; my own physical condition, and the physical exertion associated with this activity; accidents or illness can occur in remote places without medical facilities and emergency treatment or other services rendered; consumption of food or drink; the condition of roads, terrain, or highways and accidents connected with their use. Furthermore, CW employees have difficult jobs to perform. They seek safety, but they are not infallible. They might be unaware of a participant's fitness or abilities. They might misjudge the weather or other environmental conditions. They may give incomplete warnings or instructions, and the equipment being used might malfunction. 2. I expressly agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks existing in this activity. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary, and I elect to participate in spite of the risks. Additionally, I agree to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devise (life jacket) while participating in this activity. 3. Go through Johnson’s Village to the stoplight intersection. Turn left at the junction, towards Salida. Go approximately 9 miles, and look for the gas station and D’vorak Rafting on the right. cityWILD is the little blue building next to the gas station. Food, bathrooms and changing rooms available. From I-70 westbound, exit #195 for Copper Mountain / Leadville. Go past Copper, and follow highway 91 over Fremont Pass to Leadville, where it merges with highway 24. Follow main road through Leadville and out the south end of town. Go another 40 minutes through Buena Vista, and down towards Salida, follow From Denver directions above. From I-70 eastbound, exit #171 for Minturn/Leadville. Go past Minturn, and follow highway 24 over Tennessee Pass to Leadville and turn right. Follow main road through Leadville and out the south end of town. Go another 40 minutes through Buena Vista, and down towards Salida, follow From Denver directions above. From Colorado Springs (approx. 2.5 hours drive), take Hwy 24 West to hwy 285, turn left (south) and follow From Denver directions above.
