Course Description and Goals
This course helps students develop English skills for studies in the information
technology field. It aims to increase students’ reading fluency while building on students’
accuracy in reading comprehension. Another aim would be to develop the speaking skills
students need to function and succeed in classroom settings and in future career. Authentic
reading texts related to information technology will be used during the class; topics such as
artificial intelligence, communication, computer architecture, and bioinformatics, will be
discussed. Class activities include pre-reading discussion and activities, vocabulary preview,
main reading and exercises, discussion, task-based activities, and the like.
Specific purposes and aims:

to increase students’ command of related vocabulary and terminology
to improve students’ reading and listening skills relevant to the field of information
technology
 to develop students’ oral skills for technical discussion (and written skills for producing
short technical texts)

