When you come across the following categories you will:
 Write the number of the category on your post-it
 Write a notation on stating what it is about
 Stick it on the page you find the quote.

Defining moments/Milestones-Life changing events: betrayals, tragedies, accomplishments, hardships,
successes, significant conversations, deaths, etc.
Places/locations-Setting, where characters live, go to, etc.
Themes/Motifs-For LOTF: order vs. chaos, civilization vs. savagery, reason vs. emotion, loss of innocence,
religious parallels, good vs. evil, etc.
Symbolism- LOTS of symbolism in Lord of the Flies : The conch shell, Ralph, Piggy and his glasses, Simon’s words,
Roger, Jack’s behavior, the Scar, the Beast, the Lord of the Flies, signal fire, the pig hunting, pig’s head, etc. What
other symbols can you find?
Internal conflict: The protagonist (main character/hero) has internal struggle. He or she has to make decisions on
things that are in conflict with his/her values, morals, personality traits and or motives
External conflict: The protagonist (main character/hero) struggles with something that is outside him/herself.
The typical, man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. society.
