JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
NEW STAFF ATTORNEY POSITION
ASISTA Immigration Assistance seeks to fill a staff attorney or BIA accredited representative
position to provide assistance to grantees of the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW).
The new staff person may work anywhere in the US (need not work in Iowa or Boston, the
two locations of current staff). We favor, but do not require that applicants be able to work in
the DC area. Although the position is only guaranteed for the two-year term of the OVW

grantees

Developing and disseminating practice advisories on immigration law fundamentals
and on emerging issues in immigration cases for survivors

Collecting, editing and developing, as necessary, resources for grantees, available
through our Clearinghouse website

Developing and providing training to grantees, primarily through webinars and
webcasts, with possible in-person trainings as required by OVW

Collaborating with other national OVW TA providers on joint training efforts

Working with other national OVW TA providers to ensure they incorporate accurate
information on immigrant survivor issues into their training

If based in DC, representing ASISTA at coalition and government agency meetings

Working with other staff to carry out organizational goals under our OVW grant
Requirements:

Law degree plus three years' experience working on VAWA self-petitions, VAWA cancellation
and/or U visas (or demonstrated equivalent experience)

Commitment to immigrants' rights and the human rights of all women

Demonstrated ability to work without frequent in-person supervision

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with partner organizations

Excellent analytic, advocacy and communication skills

Bi- or multi-cultural and -lingual candidates favored but not required
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is limited by our OVW grant to $50,000/year (hours/week are negotiable, depending on
experience). No other benefits, except generous vacation, are available at this time. Providing health,
disability and retirement plans are organizational long-term goals.
