Creating and Maintaining Full and Accurate Records: From Maybe to
Mandatory
Archives New Zealand invites you to our next government recordkeeping forum
where we will address what it means to create and maintain full and accurate
records. Archives New Zealand is currently developing an exciting new tool to
support the mandatory provisions outlined in s. 17 of the Public Records Act- The
Standard on the Creation and Maintenance of Full and Accurate Records. This
will be distributed to agencies in mid November for public comment and we
would very much like to hear what you think about the standard and the areas we
should be addressing.
First, Stephen Clarke, Archives Analyst in the Government Recordkeeping
Programme, will tell you about our project to develop the Standard on the
Creation and Maintenance of Full and Accurate Records.
Then, Mike Steemson (Consultant, The Caldeson Consultancy), will give us an
overview of international guidance on recordkeeping and discuss how ISO-15489
impacts on recordkeeping in the New Zealand context.
After the break Leo Donnelly from the Office of the Ombudsmen will talk about
the Official Information Act process, how the OIA interacts with the PRA, and the
benefits of good recordkeeping.
To close, we will run a facilitated panel discussion with some of the Standard on
the Creation and Maintenance of Full and Accurate Records Advisory Group
Members. They will provide an insight into the practicalities of implementing the
standard.
