INSPIRE CONFERENCE 2014 Workshop/Seminar proposal TITLE DETAILS Workshop title: Supporting INSPIRE by empowering geo-data publication and sharing with cloud infrastructures and Linked-Open-Data services: analysis of costs and benefits. Workshop Length: (number of 90 min sessions) 3 WORKSHOP FACILITATOR DETAILS Name: Benoit BAURENS Address: c/o AKKA Informatique et Systèmes, 6 rue Roger Camboulives F-31100 Toulouse Phone: +33 534 61 93 80 Email: benoit.baurens@akka.eu WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION INCLUDING LEARNING OBJECTIVES The workshop aims at 2 objectives, First is to asses the viability of a cloud-based solution for managing geo-data and publishing it according to INSPIRE requirements. The following issues will be discussed: Elasticity, reliability, high-availability of cloud infrastructures for geo-data management and publication. Performance of network and computation units Costs of a cloud-based solution. Data privacy and ownership. Governance and administration of cloud-based infrastructure Second is to explore new and emerging application scenarios related to wide cloud-based solutions. The topics to be discussed are: Analysis of a large number of datasets and volumes of data. Tools for INSPIRE compliant data publication on a SaaS mode Linked-Open-Data solutions for geo-data. The workshop will include a number of presentations illustrating existing applications and use cases, as the goal of the workshop is to ground discussions INSPIRE Conference Aalborg, 16-2 June 2014 INSPIRE CONFERENCE 2014 Workshop/Seminar proposal on actual experience of participants. On the basis of such experience the workshop will produce a report on the current state of the art and on the possible future developments in the area of cloud-based solutions for geo-data management. DESCRIPTION OF TARGET WORKSHOP AUDIENCE The workshop targets practitioners at the intersection of the area of cloud computing, linked open data and INSPIRE. The target audience includes both users of the above technologies willing to share their experience and knowledge, and un-experienced users willing to understand and explore the future avenues of geo-data management. WORKSHOP REQUIREMENTS AV requirements: 2 video projectors and 2 screen of projection for potentially having slide presentation and demos in parallel. Room setup: classical classroom audience Instructions for participants: (laptop, pre-workshop preparation). None in particular. DETAILED WORKSHOP AG ENDA 1st Session will be centred on technical aspects of cloud-based infrastructures in an INSPIRE context: storage aspects, virtualisation of databases, workspaces, types of instances for attaining performance objectives, authorization management, network issues, APIs, enabling elasticity and high-availability for INSPIRE web services. Adaptations and configurations necessary on traditional technical solutions such as geodata relational database systems, mapping servers, catalogue management tools etc. will be contemplated. 2nd Session will focus on governance, data privacy and security of services that are very often considered as main hurdles to broader adoption of cloud solutions. We will also try to demonstrate how fine-grained supervision and monitoring solutions can support decision-making and design of accurate management processes of cloud infrastructures. Presentations and discussions in this session will in particular focus on pertinent awareness and management of data and services costs in the cloud. Finally, 3rd Session will introduce examples of innovating services enabled and supported through large spatial data services. Presentations will highlight how cloud technologies can support broader access to and sharing of spatial data sets INSPIRE Conference Aalborg, 16-2 June 2014 INSPIRE CONFERENCE 2014 Workshop/Seminar proposal and services. In particular, RDF representation, the Linked Open Data paradigm, and supported ability to link and search data from diverse and disparate sources will be discussed and relevant services will be presented.
