LONDON VOLUNTARY SERVICE COUNCIL Job Description Post Title: Communications and Marketing Officer Post holder: Status: Part-Time, Fixed Term to 31st March 2013 Hours: 21 hours per week Salary: £30,351 per annum, pro-rata inclusive of inner London - short-term contract ending 31st March 2013. Consultancy, or secondment considered (rates will be as above with on-costs & equivalent leave included). Purpose of the job: To support effective communications, marketing and advertising. Communications and branding Website management and development Media relations Marketing Advertising Team-work Key area 1: Communications and branding 1.1 To provide support for LVSC’s communications with its audiences, including: Co-ordinating and editing corporate e-bulletins, in liaison with the CEO and Head of Policy and Knowledge. Maintaining & monitoring LVSC’s social media and assisting others to utilise it. Communications and Marketing Officer – July 2012 Page 1 of 4 Ensuring the LVSC website homepage and news sections are up to date. Producing corporate information as necessary (e.g. Annual Review). Supporting the development of branding for new initiatives and projects. Key area 2: Website development and management 2.1 To have editorial oversight of the website, ensuring that the message it provides is coherent, relevant, and effective. 2.2 To maintain LVSC homepage and top level navigation and develop as necessary. 2.3 To ensure that landing pages are well written and meaningful & provide the administrator function controlling security, passwords, top level navigation etc. 2.4 To maintain website guidance notes for staff, on the use of the website, branding, house styles, etc. Key area 3: Media relations 3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 Advise on LVSC’s press and media work. Maintain a virtual press office and lists of appropriate media contacts using the corporate database. Support staff in dealing with the media enquiries. Advise staff on developing effective media campaigns, including developing messages, methods of communication, media involvement. Key area 4: Marketing 4.1 Lead on LVSC’s corporate marketing, and ensure that all corporate communications and marketing materials and approaches fit within LVSC’s corporate communications strategy, including use of its corporate identity. 4.2 Advise LVSC staff in their marketing strategies, materials and delivery. Key Area 5: Managing advertising and sponsorship 5.1 Promote and manage advertising and sponsorship through space in the website, e-bulletins and other communications. 5.2 Market advertising space to LVSC partners and appropriate advertisers and sponsors. Communications and Marketing Officer – July 2012 Page 2 of 4 Key Area 6: Team working 6.2 Work co-operatively with other members of the LVSC team to deliver agreed objectives. 6.3 Attend and participate LVSC meetings, including staff meetings, if required. 6.4 Attend relevant meetings and provide regular briefings and work reports to the line manager and be administratively selfservicing. 6.5 Assist with the development, quality and promotion of all LVSC information & communications systems including database and website. 6.6 Positively represent and promote LVSC as an organisation to external agencies. 6.7 Ensure that LVSC's Equal Opportunities, health and safety, financial and other policies and procedures are followed through in practice. 6.8 Undertake any other duties and tasks appropriate to the post as may be required from time-to-time by the line manager. 6.9 Contribute towards LVSC's wider strategic objectives linked to the delivery of the role.Contribute towards LVSC's cross-cutting themes of poverty, equality, health and climate change 6.10 With your line manager, identify how the delivery of this role can contribute to one or more of LVSC’s wider strategic objectives Communications and Marketing Officer – July 2012 Page 3 of 4 LONDON VOLUNTARY SERVICE COUNCIL Person Specification Communications & Marketing Officer EXPERIENCE 1. Experience of managing communications functions including marketing and media relations. 2. Experience of managing an organisations corporate identity. 3. Experience of editing and maintaining websites. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 4. Proven ability to develop and deliver appropriate communications to a range of audiences. 5. Good understanding of communications, marketing, PR and media relations practice, and the ability to put appropriate structures into place. 6. An ability to manage a website, including providing editorial guidance, management of images and structure, website administration. 7. Ability to work effectively in teams. 8. Ability to hit the ground running and work with limited induction and supervision. 9. Highly self-motivated to provide quality service delivery. 10. Understanding of equal opportunity principles and how they apply to this role. 11. Ability to plan, carry out and complete projects within agreed timescales and to prioritise between conflicting work demands. 12. Commitment to LVSC's cross-cutting themes, and specifically towards equality of opportunity in service delivery and employment and ability to integrate equality issues into all aspects of the work. NOTE: Although this is a part-time post, the ability to work these hours across the week (i.e. 5 short days) would be an advantage.
