You will find your syllabus, calendar, class announcements, Lab & Lecture handouts, student notes, activities, homework, learning objectives & chapter animations. It is your responsibility to access Angel classroom daily in order to keep current with the class and any ongoing changes that occur. COMMUNICATION: Once you have logged onto Angel, use Angel mail to communicate with your instructor, rather than the Pierce College email address. Effective communication is important to your success in this course. The student is responsible to bring to the instructors’ attention, by Angel mail, before/after class, or by appointment any concerns that they may have. ATTENDANCE: Attendance is necessary in order to be successful in BIO 241. Each student is responsible for ALL information, announcements and handouts given during any lecture or lab even if they are not present. Quizzes will only be announced in class. LECTURE/LAB PREPARATION/HOMEWORK: Students should read the appropriate chapter(s), chapter notes, lab notes & view pertinent animations prior to attending each lecture and lab. Students should also bring to class all materials necessary to understand the lecture and participate & complete each lab. Homework must be submitted in class on the due date. Five points will be deducted if the homework is late by the next class day, ten points will be deducted if the homework is late by two class days and not accepted thereafter. LAB: Each lab bench will constitute a team of four & choose a team leader. Attendance will be taken in lab until lab is dismissed. It is expected that each student will participate fully in each lab as well as assist their bench mates to learn the material. TESTS: The dates of your tests both in lecture & lab are fixed and available on your calendar in the course documents. There are NO make-ups for missed lecture tests unless a valid explanation is written out, signed, presented to the instructor & cosigned by the instructor prior to the exam. Your lowest test score will be dropped. You need to save your dropped score for a personal or medical emergency. Your drop, if you miss a test, will constitute your personal or medical emergency. There are no make-ups for quizzes or lab practicals. TEST PROTOCOL: All materials except two pencils, a Clic type eraser and a scantron must be removed from the desk including food & beverage. A student that has a question during the test should raise their hand at their seat. Pockets, backpacks, & cell phones etc. cannot be accessed during the test. Both test & scantron(s) must be turned in to receive credit for that test/quiz/final or if you leave the room for any reason. Tests must be turned in at the end of the allotted time regardless of readiness. CHEATING: The first offense will result in a “0” for that exam/final/quiz. The second offense will result in a “0” for the course. This includes those who cheat or who help others cheat. BEHAVIOR: All electronic equipment must be turned off and put away during class. There will be no texting during class. Any exception must be cleared in advance in writing between the student & the instructor. Students are to refrain from distractive behavior when asked. Persistent distractive behavior may be penalized up to 5% of your final grade.
