ANGEL CLASSROOM: Angel classroom is your resource center for this class. You will find
your course documents, class announcements, class calendar, Lab & Lecture handouts, student
notes, activities, homework, learning objectives, chapter animations, due dates and grades. It is
your responsibility to access Angel classroom daily in order to keep current with the class and
any ongoing changes. In the event of a Pierce College closure, we may use Angel classroom for
testing.
COMMUNICATION: Once you have logged on to Angel, please use Angel mail to communicate
with your instructor, rather than the Pierce College email address. Effective communication is
important to your success in this course. The student is responsible to bring to the instructor’s
attention, by Angel mail, before/after class, or by appointment any concerns that they may have.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance is necessary in order to be successful in BIO 241. Each student is
responsible for ALL information, announcements and handouts given during any lecture or lab
even if they are not present. Quizzes will be announced only in class.
LECTURE/LAB PREPARATION/HOMEWORK: Students should read the appropriate
chapter(s), chapter notes, lab notes & view pertinent animations prior to attending each lecture
and lab. Students should also bring to class all materials necessary to understand the lecture
and participate & complete each lab. Homework must be submitted in class or lab.
LAB: Each lab bench will constitute a team of four & choose a team leader. Attendance will be
taken in lab until lab is dismissed. It is expected that each student will participate fully in each lab
as well as assist their bench mates to learn the material.
TESTS: The dates of your tests both in lecture & lab are fixed and available on Angel. There are
NO make-ups for missed lecture tests unless a valid explanation is written out, signed, presented
to the instructor & cosigned by the instructor prior to the exam. Your lowest test score will be
dropped. You need to save your dropped score for a personal or medical emergency. Your drop,
if you miss a test, will constitute your personal or medical emergency. There are no make-ups for
quizzes or lab practicals.
TEST PROTOCOL: All materials except two pencils with end erasers and a scantron must be
removed from the desk including food & beverage. A student that has a question during the test
should raise their hand at their seat. Pockets, backpacks, & cell phones etc. should not be
accessed during the test. Both test & scantron(s) must be turned in to receive credit for that
test/quiz/final or if you leave the room for any reason. Tests must be turned in at the end of the
time allotted regardless of readiness.
CHEATING: The first offense will result in a “0” for that exam/final/quiz. The second offense will
result in a “0” for the course. This includes those who cheat or who help others cheat.
BEHAVIOR: All electronic equipment must be turned off and put away during class. There will be
no texting during class. Any exception must be cleared in advance in writing between the student
& the instructor. Students are to refrain from distractive behavior when asked. Persistent
distractive behavior may be penalized up to 5% of your final grade.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Students with disabilities who believe they may need academic
adjustments, auxiliary aids or services to fully participate in course activities or meet course
requirements are encouraged to register with the Access and Disability Services (ADS) Office,
Welcome Center, 3rd floor of the Cascade Building. You may also call the ADS Office to make an
appointment to meet with the ADS Coordinator at (253) 964-6468 or 964-6526. Students
requesting accommodations must obtain the “Approved Quarterly Academic Adjustments,
Auxiliary Aids or Services” (green) form provided by ADS.
