Teacher Resource 1
The post-programme check (Activity Sheet 1) is an opportunity for you to gain an understanding of how your students have progressed in three specific skills. Students who attended the first lesson will have already completed the pre-programme check. Now that you have taught the skills they need to complete it again. When you ask the students to answer the questions, please do not give too much assistance. You can help them to understand the question but cannot explain key terms or spell out any words. You need to mark the work and input this on your teacher assessment grid. It is nice for students to be told their scores – the before and after. It is important that students realize this is very individual as it is about their own progress not necessarily getting the highest score.
Remember this is not to see how many students get 100% as that is unrealistic given the short time we have with our students. However, majority if not all students will hopefully gain a better score. Again, you will need to note their final score on your assessment grid and email the information to Emma Dorrell as this will be part of a report to the company directors.
Please bear in mind that this is only assessing the progress of three specific things. It is not assessing the overall progress of the students as that is more subjective.
Marking -
Part One = one full mark for correct spelling
1.resentful 2.delighted 3.surprised 4.content 5.envious 6.worried
Part Two = one point for correct usage of apostrophe
1.
They’re going to eat at Peter’s house tonight.
2.
The man stole the ladies’ handbags.
3.
Dad’s painting Lucy’s room pink
Part Three = Maximum two marks - one mark for correct placement of adverbs and one mark for correct verb ending.
1.
Jim always walks to school.
2.
We never eat ice-cream.
3.
My sister hardly ever watches TV.
Possible one mark answer: Jim always walk to school. (Adverb in right place, but verb doesn’t have correct ending.) OR, Jim walks to school always. (Verb has correct ending, but adverb in wrong place)
Important Note: Use the above marking as a suggestion. However, it is vital that you mark in exactly the same way as you did for the pre-programme check. Your marking MUST be consistent.
