Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women
CUPE Visiting Researcher at CRIAW
The Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW) is
inviting applications for its CUPE Visiting Researcher position. The CUPE Visiting
Researcher will work for a three month period at the CRIAW office in Ottawa at a
time of her choice between March and December 2007. The recipient will
receive an honorarium of $3,500.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is Canada’s largest union. A
strong and democratic union, CUPE is committed to improving the quality of life
for workers in Canada. CUPE has generously provided CRIAW with the funding
to support this position for the next three years.
The main objective of the position is to attract highly qualified researchers, with
diverse experiences in women's groups, universities, NGOs, trade unions, public
sector organizations or the private sector, who are interested in pursuing
research on issues related to CRIAW's strategic focus on "Women's Economic
and Social Justice: Overcoming Poverty and Exclusion" (WESJOPE), using the
lens of Intersectional Feminist Frameworks (IFFs).
CRIAW is a national non-profit research institute whose work centres on making
the links between feminist research, action and social change. Its main objective
is to advance social justice and equality for all women. CRIAW is strongly
committed to conducting research within intersectional feminist frameworks.
The CUPE Visiting Researcher position will provide the successful candidate with
an opportunity to pursue their own research in a bilingual environment, within a
thriving national organization which is uniquely positioned at the junction of
academic and community research for social change. We expect that the Visiting
Researcher position will contribute to advancing knowledge on crucial issues of
women's economic and social justice, create synergy between partners in
universities, trade unions, NGOs, and the public sector, and give greater visibility
to our common efforts to achieve equality and social justice for all women.
The position is open to highly qualified feminist researchers, with a Master's
degree or PhD in the social sciences or related fields or equivalent experience,
and relevant experience in women's groups, NGOs, trade unions, or other public
1
or private sector organizations concerned with social and economic security
issues. The position is open to researchers working in either English or French.
Research topics are open, but they must be related to CRIAW's strategic focus.
In addition to the honorarium, the CUPE Visiting Researcher will have access to
office space at CRIAW, the use of a computer, and access to our documentation
centre. As a partner, the Institute of Women's Studies at the University of Ottawa
will provide the CUPE Visiting Researcher the status of Associate Researcher
with the Institute as well as full access to the library at the University of Ottawa.
The successful candidate will write one policy research paper (approximate
length 20 pages) and co-organize an event (roundtable, workshop or colloquium)
to share research findings with interested stakeholders, including NGO, trade
union and academic researchers, activists and/or policy-makers.
Applications should include curriculum vitae, a list of completed/on-going
research projects and publications, a detailed statement of their proposed
research project (2 to 3 pages), the dates of the proposed stay at CRIAW and
two references.
