GENERAL CORE IN LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES (30 s.h. * total)
Specific Competencies required:
Artistic Expression: coursework in such areas as art, dance, music, or theater
Humanities: coursework in such areas as literature, religion, philosophy, or cultural
anthropology
Communication: coursework in such areas as communication, English, written or
literary analysis, or composition
Written Expression: coursework in English, or composition
Information Retrieval: coursework in such areas as library studies, research,
computer literacy, or educational technology
Historical & Social Science Concepts: coursework in such areas as history,
anthropology, economics, psychology, sociology, or political science
Language other than English (including American Sign Language)
Scientific Processes: coursework in such areas as biology, chemistry, earth science,
or physics
Mathematical Processes: coursework in such areas as algebra, geometry, calculus,
number theory, or probability
CONTENT CORE (30 s.h. total): Major or equivalent in the subject of the certificate,
i.e. English, language other than English, biology, chemistry, earth science, physics,
mathematics, or social studies. Coursework in major may fulfill a requirement in General or
Content Core.
For a General Science Extension 18 s.h. in at least two sciences other than
the major (any number of credits in each science to total 18 s.h.)
