Vegetation response to the Late Oligocene Warming Event in southwestern Montana based on a combined phytolith-carbon isotope record. Presented at the 124th annual meeting of the Geological Society of America annual meeting; 2012 Nov. 4 – 7; Charlotte, North Carolina. Poster Presentations Monarrez, Pedro M.; Wood, Aaron R.; Velez-Juarbe, Jorge; Couper, Samantha; Fredrickson, Erik K.; and Ridgwell, Nicole (2013, November) Miocene depositional environments of the southeastern Gaillard Cut, Panama Canal, Republic of Panama. Presented at the 125th annual meeting of the Geological Society of America, Denver, Colorado. Sheldon, Nathan D.; Smith, Selena Y.; Stromberg, Caroline A.E.; Hyland, Ethan G.; Cotton, Jennifer M.; Harris, Elisha B.; Hammer, Jessica M.M.; Chen, Stephanie T.; Fredrickson, Erik K.; Smith, Kinberly J. (2014, February) Preliminary multi-proxy 40 Ma record of the rise and spread of grasses in Montana. Presented at the 10th North American Paleontological Convention, Gainesville, Florida ABILITIES Project Design Constructed and implemented an independent paleobotanical research project in MT (manuscript in-progress). Developed low-pressure gas exchange system and adapted cryogenic cooler to fit research needs. Modified existing LabView component-control program to align with changes in experimental design. Data Collection and Management Digitized field notes and created figures, tables, and maps for use in publication. Designed and filled database of paleo-climate proxies (from literature) for use in creation of computer model. Converted raw data from electrical resonance experiments into useable and navigable tables and graphs. Chemical and Mechanical Lab Work Experience mastering, maintaining, and instructing in use of a wide variety of technical equipment. Managed limited lab space with high user volume, enabling concurrent projects to move forward efficiently. Worked with supplier network to cut operational costs and find alternatives to most dangerous compounds. Implemented new laboratory protocols to minimize chemical exposure and increase user safety.
