NEW SERIES OFFERS DANCE PERFORMANCES IN AUGUST
A DIVERSE GROUP OF EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHERS OFFER NEW WORKS FOR A SPECTACULAR SUMMER OF DANCE
Graduate students and alumni from the Department of Dance at the Ohio State University, in conjunction with
the members of the Columbus dance community will offer two performances in August. The series is being produced in
Sullivant Hall Theatre. The performances are free and do not require reservations.
Details on upcoming shows are below.
August 4, 8:00 pm – d II V: ::dance+video
The third performance in a series of four, d II V offers a brilliant mix of new video-dance works and live performance
works-in-progress. Four engaging conceptual video works and three dynamic solos debut on the Sullivant stage.
Choreographers/soloists, Sandra Mendes, Amiti Perry and Anna Sullivan bring range of style and context through
the boisterous, full-bodied, dazzling spectacle to the subtle, powerful nature of gesture. Esther Palmer's video work,
"Beautiful," stabs into the territory of self-perception, staring into the face of outside perspectives that steer the image
of self into a pre-conceived ideal. A constant shake reverberates through the interdependent/deformed creatures in
Robin Anderson's video dance "Nico & Orczy." Noelle Stiles presents a lovely video dance that studies the
embodied process of how people come to define their concept of place and recognition of the importance of
seemingly transitory places in our lives. Jaclyn Thompson’s “Trio Bay,” is the ongoing extension into the
investigation of Yvonne Rainer’s post-modern tradition of “Trio A,” with a surprising twist. This short evening of
diverse works will be followed by a short question and answer session with the attending artists.

August 18 & 19, 8:00 pm – VERGE :: motion
The last event of the series will feature reworked pieces intermingled with fantastic debuts by up and coming
choreographers. Sarah Hixon presents a new group work that investigates the potential energy and movement of mass
in space through lively partnering and full-bodied movement. Tiffany Rhynard will also debut a new work, a solo entitled
Jet Black Mohawk. A Long Road to Tucson is reworked piece by Michael Estanich, which debuted in Chicago last
summer. The dance has dramatic undertones of European dance-theatre with the luscious movement that is signature
for Estanich. In a follow-up piece to Anna Sullivan’s solo, Plastik One, Sullivan presents the newest section, Plastik
Four a quartet with music by Russ Columbo & Yann Tiersen. CoCo Loupe ‘s Role with the Punches is a glance at
male/female relationships by reversing socially accepted gender roles, clothing and modes of physical engagement (i.e.
fighting) delivered through an electrified mix of movement and heart-stopping partnering feats. Amiti Perry also debuts
Watershed, an impassioned physical journey through charged meditation using vivid imagery of water and light.
