II. III. IV. V. VI. The meeting was called to order by Chair Lisa Benn at 9:35 am. Vote on new chair of Family Management, Kim Lorraine and JoAnne Morak for Vice-Chair of Coalition. Motion by Terri Becker, second by Dan Lehman. Both new members approved. Presentation of awards to those resigning from the coalition- Dan Lehman and Marla Velky-Reger. Susan Jenkins spoke about Dan’s service through Jesus Street and as a member of the coalition. Marla was not able to be present at the meeting; her award will be sent to her. Colgate graduate Molly Gamble who interned at BRiDGES and STOP DWI during the summer presented on a Alcohol Mapping Project. The project showed the relationship between on-premise locations, off-premise locations, DWI crashes, and schools and DWI crashes. The project was modeled after research by Bob Pezzolesi who developed a similar project based on Syracuse data. Comments included that follow up on violence and DWI / DUI arrests, on bar density and suicide, establishments that sell to minors and schools, snowmobile and ATV crashes and establishment location would be interesting. Board members were given out the MCP By-Laws to review and send any comments / changes to Mo or Sara in the next few weeks. A vote will be held at the December board meeting. AnnouncementsProject CAFÉ is holding a costume exchange. Also restarting their open mic nights on Thursdays from 6-8 and substance-free entertainment on Fridays 8-10. Kari Shanahan announced she is working on a project through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to build community health leaders to improve access to care. She passed around a Declaration of Health Rights for anyone interested in supporting the effort. The idea behind the effort being the everyone has a right to health care. STOP DWI- announced community meetings in Morrisville and Hamilton centered around alcohol issues. The next meeting for Hamilton is October 14th. The SADD Conference will be held in November, tentatively the 17th at New Beginnings Church. STOP DWI will also be working on a Traffic Fair in April with Morrisville College. BRiDGES will offer the next Strengthening Families Program in November in Canastota. Flyers will be sent out. The next TIPS Server training will be on October 29th from 9:30-4 at BRiDGES, no cost for participants. Susan mentioned the panel presentation on social host law. Melissa mentioned that the effort is moving forward in Cazenovia. Social Host provides more options for law enforcement in regards to consequences for underage drinking parities. Caz Action will be holding coffee talks beginning in November and running through February on various topics related to risk factors and substance abuse. The hope is to engage more community members through these conversations. VII. The meeting next Community Board meeting will be held December 3rd at 3pm at the Hamilton Bookstore at which time the mini grant winners will present on their projects.
