HIGHLAND NATIONAL MEN’S GOLF CLUB
On-Going Policies and Procedures
Membership
Membership entitles you to a USGA handicap, Sunday tee times, club events every weekend over the course of the
season, Season Match Play and Club Championship events and eligilbility to enter extra-fee club events scheduled
throughout the year. You are also eligible for USGA, MGA and MPGA tournaments depending on your qualifications.
Tee Time Reservations
Weekend Events
There must be a minimum of 4 entries per flight to be an official event. The Master of Events may adjust payouts
accordingly. Members must report their score on the event sheet and configure their score according to the event
scheduled that day. Your ESC (equitable stroke control) score must be entered in the clubhouse computer for handicap
purposes. Failure to do the preceding items will disqualify you from said event.
Member Gift Card
All member winnings are posted to your Golf event gift card. Gift cards may be redeemed for merchandise at any of the
three City Pro Shops (Como, Phalen, Highland). Gift cards may also be used for Green fees, carts and may be applied
to your season ticket purchase for the following year. Gift cards for new members will be issued by Clubhouse staff. Gift
cards for past members carry over to the new year. The only cash event we have is the Presidents / Vice-Presidents event
held in late September. Cash winnings are handed out at the Fall Capper.
Major Events
are those events that require an entry fee. They are noted on your schedule in bold print. Sign-up sheets for these events
are on the Men’s club table by the computer and posted two weeks prior to the event. Deadline for signing up is Tuesday
of event week at 5:00 p.m.. When you sign-up for these events you are commiting yourself to showing up for the event
and agree to the format and tee time group as designated by the Master of Events. i.e. Do NOT ask for special favors.
The entry fee must be paid the day of the event before you tee off to the Clubhouse staff. Failure to pay will disqualify
you from the event. All member winnings are posted to your Golf event gift card.
Entry Fees Checks are preferred but cash is acceptable.
Season Long Match Play Events
Open to all members. New members are eligible provided they have a USGA handicap by Memorial day.
Sign-up for these events by completing the entry form and attaching a check for the entry fee. Sign-up dates are usually
from the Spring Mixer date through Memorial day weekend.
Matches are scheduled on specific days throughout the summer using club tee times. Matches must be played on the
scheduled date or may be played before that date if all parties agree. Matches not completed by the scheduled date are
subject to forfeit by either / both players at the Master of Events discretion.
Individual Match Play: Entries limited to 1st 64 members to sign up. There will be 4 flights of 16 players each based on
USGA handicap index..
2-Man Bestball: Entries limited to 1st 32 teams to sign up. Teams are split into 4 flights of 8 teams each based on USGA
handicap index of the higher handicapped player. Maximum per player “match handicaps” will be set for each flight.
Club Championship
This is a two day 36 hole medal play event. There are two divisions: Regular division- open to any member. The Club
champion is the one with the low 36 hole medal play score played from the black tees. The club champion receives a free
club membership for the following year and has his name engraved on the Clubhouse plaque.

Senior division- open to those members age 55+. The Senior club champion is the one with the low 36 hole medal play
score played from the white tees. The Senior Gross champion receives a discounted membership for the following year.
The Senior Gross and Net champions have their names engraved on the Clubhouse plaque.
You may only participate in one division. The gross champion in each division cannot also be the low net champion.
You may only win once. Net flights are setup in each division. Warrant prizes are awarded.
If either day is cancelled due to weather, a makeup day has been scheduled. If the makeup day is cancelled due to
weather, the Club Championship becomes a one day event.
The number of flights and pairings are at the discretion of the Master of Events.
The Kickoff
This is a 18 hole Bestball net event by flight. Pick your own partner or sign-up individually and the Master of Events will
pair you with a partner. Entry fee required. Lunch included after the round.
The Wint Event (Memorial Day Weekend)
The ‘Wint’ is a 36 hole 2-day medal play low net event by flight. Entry fee required. Lunch ticket on 2nd day.
Highland Handicaps
These are one day team events. Master of Events pairs all entrants into groups (usually foursomes). Formats will vary.
Entry fee required.
July 4th (Red, White, Blue Events)
These are three (3) one day handicap events. Events are usually individual, bestball or team events. Play any one or all
events as your schedule permits. Entry fee required for each event. Lunch ticket on one of those days.
Labor Day Shortstop
These are two one day events. Entry fee required each day. 9-hole matches are played on day 2. Lunch ticket on 2nd day.
Players Championship
One day net by flight. Entry fee required plus the Club contributes to the prize fund.
Presidents vs Vice-Presidents
This is a bestball match play event. Entry in this event entitles you to a dinner ticket to the Fall Cappper usually held at
Mancini’s in October. The President and Vice-president of the Club pick teams from those entering the event. One point
is awarded to the individual team winning the front nine, one point for the back nine and one point for the total match. 3
points total. Each point is awarded cash payable at the Fall Capper. The team who wins the most match points is awarded
additional cash.
Fall Scramble
Usually the last event of the year. Formats vary. Entry fee required. Lunch ticket provided.
Scorekeeping
USGA rules require each player be responsible for recording his correct score.
At Highland, to be eligible for an event prize:
a) All scores must be recorded on the official score sheet in the Clubhouse and configured for the event played that day.
This applies to all events. Failure to comply will result in disqualification. .
b) Scorecards must be signed and attested by at least one other player in the group. Scorecards should be deposited in
the cardboard box on the table in the Clubhouse. Failure to comply will result in DQ.
c) Scores must be posted in the Highland computer. An audit committee of the Board of Directors will periodically
verify that scores have been entered in the computer. Failure to comply will result in DQ. If the computer is down,
this rule will not apply.

Hole-in-One
A Club member making a hole in one in a Men’s Club event shall have their Name inscribed on the Clubhouse Hole-in-one
plaque. A club match played during the week also qualifies.
Inclement Weather
You have a right to take shelter if lightning is an immediate threat. Indeed you are encouraged not to expose
yourself to danger. If lightning occurs during an event, a wait of up to one (1) hour would seem reasonable to ask of any
golfer.
If the Course is closed to carts due to weather conditions- rub of the green. That is, no refunds of event entry fees if the event
is made official for those members completing the tournament by walking.
MPGA 16-Man Team Event
The MPGA conducts a season-long match play event for the better golfers of any age as long as you’re a Club member.
Sixteen (16) members from the club participate in match play format against an opposing team at scratch golf (i.e. no
handicap). Sign-up sheets are posted on the Clubhouse bulletin board two weeks prior to the match.
MPGA Senior 8-Man Team Event
The MPGA conducts a season-long match play event for those members age 55+. Eight (8) members from the club
participate in match play format against an opposing team at scratch golf (i.e. no handicap). Sign-up sheets are posted
on the Clubhouse bulletin board two weeks prior to the match.
The club treats participants to lunch for the first two home matches.
Metro Seniors
The Club participates in a Friday metro-area seniors golf event held most every Friday for those members age 50+. Four (4)
members from each club participate in match play format with handicap. Many members may participate over the course
of the summer. The Men’s Club pays the entry fees at the beginning of the year. This seniors event has no connection
with the MGA or MPGA golf organizations. Sign-ups for this event occur during the month of April in the Highland
Clubhouse.
Speedy Play Hints
1) Do NOT do your scorekeeping on the Green; wait till the next tee 2) Do NOT park your cart in front of the green;
leave your bag between the green and the next tee 3) first person to putt out should put the pin back 4) Play the
continuous putting rule where possible 5) If your group gets behind, play ‘ready’ golf (i.e. disregard honors) 6) Be
ready when its your turn to hit 7) Limit yourself to one practice swing
