AFRICAN VOICES is looking for volunteers and interns
AFRICAN VOICES, a not-for-profit cultural arts organization, is dedicated to fostering cultural understanding and awareness through literature
and the arts. Established in 1992, African Voices publishes a quarterly literary magazine and sponsors literary readings, art exhibitions, writing
workshops and other community programs. We also organize REEL SISTERS OF THE DIASPORA FILM FESTIVAL & LECTURE
SERIES at LIU, Brooklyn Campus.
REEL SISTERS of the Diaspora Film Festival and Lecture Series’ mission is to cultivate and spotlight the unique talent and struggle of women
of color in the film industry. Our goal is to empower women filmmakers of African-American, Caribbean, Latina, Asian, Native American and
African descent. REEL SISTERS provides access to leading professionals through the presentation of panels and workshops on various topics
from screenwriting to producing. Reel Sisters is a two-day film festival that is hosted in October.
We are looking for volunteers and interns in the following areas:






Administration - assist with office duties including but not limited to filing, copying, data entry, maintaining email and mailing
list databases.
Marketing/Promotions - *Distribution of postcards/flyers at AFRICAN VOICES events and other art events throughout the
five boroughs and New Jersey. Website maintenance (African Voices only) and Graphic Design (design flyers/postcards for
events). Assistance in raising awareness about all of our programs and activities.
Sponsorship/Fundraising - a liaison for existing sponsors and also research new sponsors. Assist with fundraising and grant
writing.
Program & Lecture Series/Gala & Awards Ceremony - to help with scheduling, table set-up, reservations and information
tables, run errands, etc.
Ticket Sales - promote and sell tickets for our programs at local events and online. This includes help in establishing group sales
for our fundraising benefits and two-day film festival.
Volunteer Coordinator – responsible for helping us build and sustain an active list of volunteers for our events and programs.
*Individuals can distribute postcards/flyers in their area of choice. We are looking for individuals from all five boroughs including New Jersey.
