Maryland Ave. MC 7120 Chicago, IL 60637 ADULT LIVER TRANSPLANT EVALUATION Tests which must be done at the University of Chicago Hospitals Ultrasound of the liver with doppler flow studies- yearly Chest X-ray annually EKG annually Blood Type CT of the abdomen, (cirrhosis protocol) with and without contrast to rule out tumor; repeated yearly or more often if indicated Tests that can be done at other institutions Pulmonary Functions Tests with arterial blood gases, DLCO, and lung volumes every 2 years and or as needed Echocardiogram: M-mode Doppler every year (please assess PA pressures) Upper GI Endoscopy to rule out esophageal varices every 2 years and or as needed Dobutamine stress test: all men and women over 40 years of age and all patients with diabetes Stool for hemoccult X3 every year –(Colonoscopy if positive) 24-hour urine for creatinine clearance and protein with serum creatinine Statement from dentist that necessary dental work had been completed (potential infection sources should be identified and treated before activation for transplantation). Bone Density using dual photon absorbitometry Mammogram: Baseline at 35-40 years old, annually after 50 years of age. Pap smear and pelvic exam- yearly after age 18 Immunizations/Screenings Pneumovax 0.5 cc’s I.M. PPD (TB skin test) Annual flu shot Hepatitis B vaccinations if HBSAg and HBSAb negative (3 injections are needed) Hepatitis A vaccine if HA IgG is negative needed (2 injections are needed) OR Twinrix (Hepatitis A & B combined; 3 doses if Hep BsAb & HAV IgG are negative) Laboratory Studies HIV VDRL/RPR Hep A IgG HBsAg, HBsAb, HbcAb IgM & IgG—HBsAg positive patients need HBV/DNA & HBeAg Hepatitis C AB or RIBA; If positive do Hepatitis C PCR Quantitative every year and Hepatitis C Genotype Analysis AFP- baseline and every 6 months PSA required for all men over 50 years old Magnesium, Calcium, Iron, Total Iron Binding Capacity and Ferritin All patients with Autoimmune Hepatitis, will need a ANA, LKM, and SMA All patients with PBC will need a AMA Alpha 1 Antitrypsin if below normal range please do Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Phenotype Routine Labs-every 6 to 8 weeks or as needed Complete Chemistry profile- including SGPT/ALT, SGOT/AST CBC with platelet count and prothrombin time All liver transplant candidates are required to have at least one meeting with our transplant social worker Sandi Cohen MSW/LCSW.
