NuDesign: A New Twist on Modern

exemplary leaders in the kitchen and bath industry collaborating under the banner of NuDesign. For
Interior Design Show 2009 AyA Kitchens and Sub Zero/Wolf have collaborated with celebrity Designer
Glen Peloso to create the ultimate modern kitchen.
What’s New at AyA Kitchens
2009’s Interior Design Show marks the launch of AyA’s new cool white Oyster finish featured on AyA’s
new Lumina door style. A 3mm thick backpainted glass overlay is applied to a matching matte painted
16mm thick slab door – a modern and eco-friendly alternative to high gloss lacquer finishes. The
melding of the two materials creates an additional outer edge detail to the door further emphasizing the
Lumina’s linear qualities. The two textures of the matte paint and the luminous glass create a tone on
tone play with light. Lumina’s addition to AyA’s product offering demonstrates AyA’s commitment to
European minimalist design.
The Kitchen Concept
Stepping into the kitchen you are immediately immersed in the sleek sophistication of the interplay of
textures and materials unified by a common monochromatic palette of crisp white tones. Lustrous glass
faced cabinetry and appliances, luminous curving countertops, sparkling bubble chandeliers and glossy
pearl hardwood floors all contribute to the radiant lightness of the space.
Pushing the boundaries of what is possible is the unifying theme of the NuDesign collaboration. AyA’s
new Lumina door style with Oyster backpainted glass demonstrates AyA’s new interpretation of minimalist
European design. The twin stately flush inset Sub Zero refrigerators flanked with full height pull out
pantries integrate seamlessly and anchor the space. Flip up wall cabinets are encased in a gracefully
curved Glacier White Corian floating shelf, an organic detail which is repeated in the central island
creating a stunning sculptural centerpiece.
The wonders and possibilities of technology illuminate and enliven this living space. The backsplash,
featuring imbedded LCD monitors behind reflective glass, allows imagination to take shape – decorative
imagery, recipes, films, news - the web seamlessly connects this hip kitchen to the world beyond. Energy
efficient and versatile LED lighting is used throughout, both in warm tones to highlight cabinetry and
workspace, and more playfully to create the multi-coloured glow of the “bubble bar”.
Intelligent yet stylish storage solutions and accessories add the final layer of functionality to the kitchen.
Pull out pantries, flip up cabinets and soft close pot drawers with internal pull-outs all give versatility to
storage requirements. A frameless Wolf cooktop and Sub Zero Wine Refrigerator offer unsurpassed
functionality and style. A chrome Franke faucet and a cylindrical vent hood provide the perfect metallic
accents.

The Vision – From Glen Peloso
I based my vision on the Nudesign booth on the elements of air/heaven – the white, in a continuous
palette is to evoke the feeling of openness. The white offers a sense of cleanliness line an environment
where food preparation is best executed.
The curves of the space offer the element of “eddy” created by wind flow as they interact with the clouds.
The bubble bar is the use of air in wine. The back splash in constant movement gives the space a feeling
of movement, like a changing sky.
The space has all the function of a work room yet the seamless flow hides all the functional elements and
focuses on beauty. It also has a practical element in that it can be integrated with a computer offering
functionality and international connection through the internet, television and film.
