Introduction
Composite Regional Centre for Persons with Disabilities (CRC) is established under the
Department of Empowerment of persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice &
Empowerment, Government of India. This Centre at Bhopal became functional in the year
2000. It is under the administrative control of Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the
Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai. It aims to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to
the persons with disabilities in Central India Region.
The basic aim of setting up this Centre is to create the resources and infrastructure required
for developing services for persons with disabilities, including human resource development
in the field of disability rehabilitation.
Courses
The centre conducts 1 year certificate/diploma courses since 2003-04. The alumni of this
centre have found jobs in Government, Non-government and private organizations. In the
current academic year 2015-16, the Centre has proposed to conduct the following regular full

The staff at the Centre comprises of faculty members in the field of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, Speech & hearing, Clinical Psychology, Special Education, Physiotherapy,
and Occupational therapy. The centre has other professionals too like Prosthetist & orthotist,

Clinical Exposure
The Centre provides services to all types of disabled persons. This centre provides 700
rehabilitation services per month on an average to persons with disabilities from Central
India. In addition to this, cases from outreach camp and community based activity is also a
regular feature.

Examination
All examinations will be conducted according to the regulations of institutions authorized by
Rehabilitation Council of India. Ninety percent (90%) attendance is compulsory in theory,
practical, as well as fieldwork.
Hostel Accommodation
Hostel facility is not available at the Centre. The Centre may help outstation trainees to find
suitable residential accommodation in nearby areas. The expenditure for the same will have to be
borne by the trainee.
Selection and admission
Selection will be according to the merit based on the percentage aggregate marks secured in the
qualifying examination (viz. 10th for CPO, 12th for DHLS and aptitude test conducted by RCI for
DEd-SE(ASD)). In case of equal marks, preference will be given to candidates belonging to
Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, those who have passed qualifying exam in 1st attempt and
those who are younger in age. Reservation of seats for SC/ST/PH/OBC is applicable according to
government rules.
Counseling will be offered to all short listed candidates for admission. The candidates have to
come with original certificates for admission. Selected candidates should deposit the fees on
admission in lump sum. The candidate once admitted to the course will not be allowed to leave the
course under any circumstances. If any candidate still desires to leave the course for any reason,
the total fee and deposits paid will be forfeited. These are the fulltime courses. Hence the student
will not be allowed to pursue any other course during academic session.

CERTIFICATE COURSE IN PROSTHETIC AND ORTHOTIC (CPO)
INTRODUCTION
Persons with weakness or absence of limbs or body parts need devices like artificial limbs,
calipers, wheelchair, crutches etc. to support, move and work.
AIM
The aim of this course is to prepare trained benchworker technicians for fabrication and fitting
of orthopedic appliances, artificial limbs and other rehabilitation aids for persons with
locomotor disability.
OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course these technicians will be able to do the following tasks under
supervision of prosthetist and orthotist –
 Describe the basic structure and function of the human body.
 Identify locomotor disability, its causes and effects.
 Undertake the fabrication and fitment of prostheses and orthosis
 Do repairs and maintenance of aids and appliances used by the locomotor disabled.

Involve in research of novelty aids and appliances suitable for geographic and cultural
needs of the region.
ELIGIBILITY
Minimum educational requirement for admission to this course is –
Completion of ITI certificate course in any of the trades of fitter/carpenter/leather
OR 10th pass or equivalent with 2 years experience in prosthetic & orthotic workshop
AGE
The candidate should be at least 17 years old on 6.7.2015 to be eligible for admission
COURSE
The course mainly consists of practical training on machines, tools, materials, prosthetics and
orthotics. It also consists of basic theory in these subjects as well as basic human sciences,
rehabilitation sciences and locomotor disorders. During the course, educational tour will be
arranged to one National Institute, Jaipur Limb Center and a high-tech P & O workshop. The
trainees have to submit a report on institutional visits. The trainees will also be exposed to
various composite camps.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
Hindi / English
SCOPE
After completion of the course the candidate will have to register him/her self as
Rehabilitation Personnel with the Rehabilitation Council of India. This technician may get
employed in a Government, non-government or private set up. Many alumni have got job in
District Disability Rehabilitation Centres in the Country. M/s. Endolite India Ltd. a
multinational company has been coming for campus interviews at this centre over past 3
batches. These technicians are also required for repair and maintenance of artificial limbs and
appliances in small towns and villages.

DIPLOMA IN HEARING LANGUAGE AND SPEECH
INTRODUCTION
Hearing loss can be partly compensated by use of hearing aid after proper assessment.
Speech therapy improves the quality of life of persons having speech and language
disorders due to hearing loss since birth, damage to brain or speech structures.
AIM
The aim of this course is to prepare technicians in speech and hearing who can assist in
routine assessment and therapy for various speech, language, and hearing disorders.
OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course, these technicians will be able to carry out following tasks
under the guidance of speech pathologist and audiologist –
 Hearing assessment
 Speech assessment
 Speech and Language therapy
 Hearing aid fitment and maintenance
ELIGIBILITY
Minimum educational requirement for admission to this course is Higher Secondary
School Certificate (12th Standard) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and
Biology/Mathematics as essential subjects. The candidates with aggregate marks less than
50% (45% for SC/ST candidates) will not be considered for the admission.

CONTENTS
The course consists of theory and practical training in audiology, speech and language
pathology. In addition to these, psychology, community based rehabilitation, education for
children with special needs, and management of children and adults with hearing
impairment and with speech and language pathology and basic medical sciences related to
speech & hearing are also included in the course. Educational tour will be arranged to well
known speech and hearing institution. The trainee should submit a report after completion
of visits. Exposure to camps is also given.
SCOPE
After completion of the course the technician has to register himself as Rehabilitation
Personnel with the Rehabilitation Council of India. The field of communicative disorders
provides exciting career opportunities. These technicians get jobs Speech Language
Assistant and/or Audiometric technician in government, non-government and private
organizations e.g. Hospitals, Special Schools, Speech & Hearing Institutes/Clinics,
Disability Rehabilitation Centres, National & International Hearing Aid Manufacturing
Companies etc. Their services are also required in small towns and villages for care and
maintenance of hearing aids.

AIM
This course aims to prepare graduate professionals who is can train visually impaired persons in
orientation and mobility (O&M) skills to spend whole life independently, easily, accessibly in
self-dependent manner.
OBJECTIVES
In this course, the trainee shall undertake practical and theory in O&M training  Visual Impairment alone or with additional disabilities.
 Use and improvement of other senses – Hand touch, Finger skills, Auditory training,
awareness about different surfaces and textures, use of remaining vision.
 Orientation & Mobility Training.
 Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Training.
 Physical education and fitness.
 Whole personality development for visually impaired.
 Community based rehabilitation
ELIGIBLITY
Candidates securing 50% or more marks at a Bachelors’ degree examination in arts/ science/
commerce will be eligible for admission to the course. Further, admission may be granted on the
basis and entrance test with merit being the deciding criterion.
