CHAIN Developmental Proposal
BUDGET JUSTIFICATION
1. PERSONNEL
Itemize each person working on the project including Principal Investigators, the number of calendar month(s) of salary is/are requested, and their role and responsibilities in the project.
Please note that salaries cannot exceed the current NIH salary cap of $181,500).
2. CONSULTANT COSTS
Itemize each consultant, rate per day, number of days, any additional costs such as travel, lodging, supplies, and total cost for each consultant.
3. EQUIPMENT
Only under exceptional circumstances should equipment be purchased (defined as a cost of at least $5,000 and with a usable life of greater than one year), and must be very well justified.
4. SUPPLIES
Identify general categories and amounts, for example molecular biology supplies, histology supplies, immunology reagents, animal purchase. Justify briefly (e.g. molecular biology supplies for real-time PCR analysis of gene expression, fluorescently-labeled antibodies for FACS analysis, etc.)
5. TRAVEL
Travel funds are only available for unfunded junior investigators for travel to a relevant scientific meeting to present the results of the CHAIN Center Developmental grant. Please identify possible meetings.
6. and 7. INPATIENT and OUTPATIENT CARE COSTS
Include details as necessary
8. OTHER EXPENSES
Other Direct Costs may include items such as:
Publication costs: include funds requested for the publication of the results and the preparation of presentations and posters.
Services: must be project-specific; examples include computer services, equipment maintenance contract fees, animal per diem charges, payments to human subjects involved in the research, FACS, confocal or other Core service charges
Other costs that do not fit in categories mentioned above.
9. CONSORTIUM/CONTRACTUAL COSTS/DIRECT
For these Development Projects additional Consortium with their respective Subcontracts are
Discouraged unless necessary. In that case identify and briefly describe other institutions involved in the project and total costs requested for each. Letters from consultants and face page or letter of intent from the subcontractor(s) are required as part of any budget including these items: a budget, budget justification, key personnel bio and scope of work are needed from each subcontractor.
