Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2Pe 3:3-7 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. Today we are going to talk about the geological column and suppression of evidence. The geologic time scale provides a system of chronologic measurement relating stratigraphy to time that is used by geologists, paleontologists and other earth scientists to describe the timing and relationships between events that have occurred during the history of the Earth. This is presented by the geologic column The column is supposed to represent a vertical cross-section through the earth’s crust, with the most recently deposited (therefore youngest) rocks at the surface and the oldest, earliest rocks deposited on the crystalline “basement” rocks at the bottom. If one wishes to check out this standard column (or standard geologic age system), where can he go to see it for himself? There is only one place in the entire world to see the standard geologic column. That’s in a textbook. This standard column is supposed to be at least 100 miles high (some writers say up to 200miles, representing the total sedimentary activity of all of the geologic ages. However, the average thickness of each local geologic column is about one mile (in some places, the column has essentially zero thickness, in a few places it may be up to 16 or so miles, but the worldwide average is about one mile. The standard column has been built up by superposition of local columns from many different localities to make what is called the geologic column, which as noted, is only found in text books. The alternative is Catastrophism, the doctrine that at intervals in the earth's history all living things have been destroyed by cataclysms (e.g., floods or earthquakes). During these cataclysms the features of the earth's surface, such as mountains and valleys, were formed. The theory, popularly accepted from the earliest times, was attacked in the late 18th cent., notably by James Hutton. Uniformitarianism doctrine proposes that changes in the earth's surface that occurred in past geologic time are referable to the same causes as changes now being produced upon the earth's surface. E.g. sediments are being laid down very slowly now, so they must have always been laid down slowly. Thus, a certain thickness of sedimentary rock must denote millions of years of time. The theory of uniformitarianism was first proposed by James Hutton in his "Theory of the Earth" in 1795. This was developed further by Charles Lyell in "Principles of Geology," first published in 1830. That book had a profound influence on Charles Darwin; giving him the ideas that led to his theory of evolution, and the millions of years that he needed. The hypothesis is that recently on the geologic timescale an earlier branch of apes now extinct, divided, one branch in time became modern man, the other modern apes, chimps and monkeys. There is no evidence (fossils) but one claim is we are similar in DNA at about 99% to chimpanzees. As DNA is common to all life, we are about 50% similar to a banana and flies etc. Genetic similarity is not the same as genetic linking, being similar is not the same as being linked, this is rarely mentioned. Two red cars may be similar, but also worlds apart. According to Darwin humans like us first came into existence less than 200,000 years ago, existing as hunter-gatherers. The first signs of use of symbolic markings came less than 100,000 years ago. The first development of sophisticated art came less than 50,000 years ago, an example being the cave paintings of Paleolithic Europe. About 10,000 years ago, humans began to engage in agriculture and the domestication of animals. Settled village life supposedly began at this time, along with associated skills such as pottery making and weaving. So, according to the geologic column, modern man is only found at the very top, in the quaternary period. What do our eyes through observation tell us? But first, what does Jesus say? Mat 19:4,5 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. According to the LORD, man was made at the beginning. So, what does observation of the geologic column tell us? A carved shell from England. The shell has a simple but recognizable human face incised on its outer surface. Henry Stopes, a Fellow of the Geological Society, gave a brief report on it at a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in 1881 (the text can be found in the report of the fifty-first meeting of the BAAS, p. 700). The carved shell was found in the Red Crag formation at Walton-on-Naze, on the North Sea coast of England. The Red Crag, part of which is locally called the Walton Crag, is of Late Pliocene age. Because the shell was found embedded in a stratum of Late Pliocene age, it should itself be of Late Pliocene Age. That would make it 2.0-2.5 million years old. 330,000-year-old skeleton found at Galley Hill, near London, in 1888, was discovered in undisturbed strata, and anthropologist Sir Arthur Keith concluded that ‘there was no possibility of denying the authenticity of the discovery without doing an injury to truth’ In 1880 geologist Giuseppe Ragazzoni excavated bones of a woman, a man, and 2 children from a Middle Pliocene formation (3 or 4 million years old) at Castenedolo in northern Italy. During the days of the California Gold Rush, starting in the 1850s, miners discovered many anatomically modern human bones and advanced stone implements in mine shafts sunk deeply into deposits of gold-bearing gravels capped by thick lava flows. The gravels beneath the lava are from 9 to 55 million years old. In 1880 J.D. Whitney, the state geologist of California, published a lengthy review of advanced stone tools found in California gold mines. All the evidence gathered by Whitney indicated that the objects could not have entered from other levels; the implements, including spear points, stone mortars, and pestles, were found deep in mine shafts, beneath thick, undisturbed layers of lava. Whitney concluded that humans like those of the present had existed in very ancient times in North America. To this W.H. Homes of the Smithsonian Institution replied: ‘Perhaps if Professor Whitney had fully appreciated the story of human evolution as it is understood today, he would have hesitated to announce the conclusions formulated, notwithstanding the imposing array of testimony with which he was confronted.’ In other words, if the facts do not agree with the favoured theory, then such facts, even an ‘imposing array’ of them, must be thrown out of the window. In 1866, in Calaveras County, in Nevada mountains of California, a mine owner found a highly fossilized human skull in a pre-Pliocene layer of gravel 40 m below the surface.15 Opinions on its authenticity varied, but some scientists said that careful examination showed it was incrusted with sand and gravel from the site and its cavities were filled with the same material. As mentioned above, large numbers of stone implements were found in nearby deposits of similar age. And additional human skeletal remains were uncovered in the same region, dating from 9 to 55 million years old. Sir Arthur Keith stated that the Calaveras skull ‘cannot be passed over. It is the "bogey" which haunts the student of early man ... taxing the powers of belief of every expert almost to breaking point.’ The evidence includes a nail found in Devonian sandstone (up to 345 million years old), metallic tubes found in Cretaceous chalk (up to 145 million years old), a gold thread found in Carboniferous stone, a small Carboniferous gold chain found in a lump of coal (up to 345 million years old), a Carboniferous iron cup from a chunk of coal, a Cambrian ‘shoe print’, a metallic vase from Precambrian rock, and Precambrian grooved metallic spheres from South Africa (up to 600 million years old when life was nothing more than bacteria). Dinosaurs becoming extinct at 64 million years ago seem recent! In 1937 a Wyoming woman discovered a 6-inch-long spoon in a large chunk of Pennsylvania soft coal. It was sent to the Smithsonian Institution, which replied that human artifacts could never be found in coal. And the Smithsonian is never wrong – is it? The pre-flood people were clever - Gen 2:11,12 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. Gen 4:21,22 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah. It should not surprise us that even the oldest sedimentary rock has signs of intelligent people if we reject evolution and accept the scriptures as our sole authority. There are many 100s of examples than can be appealed too, suffice to say throughout the geologic column evidence is found of intelligent human beings, just like us. Most scientists that try to explain these anomalies usually fall into the reasoning of: "It must be fake because I can't figure out how it could be true." Modern science is very protective of its mainstream beliefs and to step outside of the evolutionary belief will bring ridicule, therefore, it is often safer to ignore contrary evidence. Gen 1:31-2:3 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Exo 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: Although a brief introduction on the Geologic Column, today we can reach the following conclusions: 1/ The Geologic Column only exists in text books (reward offered to anyone who can prove me wrong). 2/ The existence of ‘modern’ man is found throughout the Geologic Column. 3/ We can safely assume that mankind is NOT one billion years old, due to lack of fossils and archeology that is required. We can conclude the Genesis record remains intact and proven as fact. Act 2:37,38 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Mar 16:15,16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
