Horticulture Grades: 9, 10, 11 & 12 (1/2 credit) Prerequisite: None, although Exploring Ag. is recommended Course Description: This class will explore the world of horticulture and plant science. Applied concepts in the horticulture industry will be presented. Topics that will be explored include: importance of the horticulture industry, careers, plant needs and functions, plant processes, propagation, hydroponics, annuals/perennials, flowerbeds, seeds & germination, types of plants, and other horticulture issues. Course objectives: 1. Develop an understanding of the horticulture industry. 2. Develop understanding of plant needs, structures, functions, and processes. 3. Conduct experiments with plant propagation and hydroponics. 4. To develop an understanding of plants used in flowerbeds and landscapes. 5. To design flower gardens. 6. To learn how to arrange flowers and make corsages. 7. Gain hands-on experience with plants. Methods of presentation: Lesson presentation, question and answer, worksheets, main text readings, videos, demonstrations, and laboratory exercises. Methods of evaluation: General assignments, quizzes, projects, and class participation (attitude, attendance, and effort). Grading: Grading will be based on total points.
