Musculoskeletal System
Introduction
The Musculoskeletal System Consists of:
1 -Skeletal system. 2 - Muscles. 3 -joints. 4 – Cartilages 5-ligaments 6- Bursae
These structures give the human body its shape and ability to move.
1. The Skeletal System (Skeleton):
Is the biological system providing physical support in living organisms. It made up
of 206 bones, divided into:
1) Axial Skeleton: comprising the skull, the hyoid, the ribs, the sternum and
the vertebral column.

Functions of the Skeleton:
1-It provides a framework for the body.
2-It protects vital organs and soft tissues thus the ribs protect the lungs and
heart, skull protect the brain, vertebrae protect spinal cord.
3-It enables the body to move, it provides attachments for muscles and ligaments.
4-It contains bone marrow which manufactures blood cells.
5- It provides store house for calcium.
