Rheumatology Fatigue Management Programme
NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s Rheumatology service offers a Fatigue
Management Programme run by Occupational Therapy staff. The programme is for
people with rheumatic diseases who also have moderate to high levels of fatigue and
who want to better manage their condition. People eligible for the group include
people diagnosed with a type of inflammatory arthritis and/or connective tissue
disease.
This is a 6 week programme, there are generally 6 – 8 people in the group.
Patients can be referred to the Rheumatology OT service for a fatigue assessment
by any member of the Rheumatology team and are then referred to the fatigue
management programme if appropriate. The groups are run at various hospital sites
venues at present twice yearly. For further information please contact:

Looking after Your Joints – Self Management Programme
This course is run by Rheumatology Occupational Therapy staff.
The course runs for four meetings. Held at various hospital site venues in afternoons
and evenings.
Referrals can be made by any member of the Rheumatology team to Occupational
Therapy and following assessment, patients are offered one to one joint protection
education and attendance at the groups as appropriate.
Looking after Your joints course is often helpful for those who have hand involvement
,functional limitations due to this and feel they wish to learn more about Joint
Protection techniques.

Inflammatory Arthritis Exercise Programme
12 week rolling exercise programme for patients with inflammatory arthritis and/or
connective tissue disease. The aims are to give patients ongoing advice about
exercising and managing their condition; help break down the barriers to exercising;
and act as a stepping stone to exercising in the community.
Patients are referred into the service by their Rheumatology consultant, specialist
nurse, occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
Patients who attend Rheumatology can also self refer into the service on 0141 531
3703 (AHP Rapid Access)

Joint Working Project – OT Vocational Rehab & Arthritis Care
Struggling at Work – If people are having difficulties at work because of their
Inflammatory Joint Disease then a referral can be made to Occupational Therapy.
Our occupational therapists are, in conjunction with Arthritis Care, in The Joint
Working Project, supporting individuals to remain in work or find suitable employment
following diagnosis. Arthritis Care Scotland work closely with key agencies to
provide a holistic approach via a network of support for individuals, referred by
Occupational Therapists, other health professionals and those who self refer.
