blood drive planned, as well as another
cheese sale and some community cleanups on the horizon. Please check with
me or the other officers, or the advisors
for times and sign up sheets for all of
these.

Better World Book Drive
Members of Northeast Mississippi
Community College’s Iota Zeta chapter of
Phi Theta Kappa visited Twin Oaks Group
Homes in Booneville during the fall
semester to play bingo and other games with

Friends,
I hope this letter finds you in a good
mood after a long enjoyable break. I
hope everyone enjoyed their time off
with their families, and had a very Merry
Christmas. Now that school is getting
back in session, and hopefully you are
adjusting back to the swing of things,
Phi Theta Kappa is about to get busy.
We have many activities planned this
Dr. Ray Harris of Booneville, presents Rusty
Whitten of Corinth, chapter president, and
Joel Barron of Red Bay, Ala., chapter
recording secretary, with a $200 check the
chapter received from Better World Books
for collecting the most college textbooks
among all the colleges in the state of
Mississippi at the close of the spring
semester. Northeast’s Iota Zeta members
participated in the international service
project/fund raiser with Better World Books
and the National Center for Family Literacy
to collect textbooks for Katrina evacuees.

Breakfast With Santa
Mary Hansen of New Albany, helps
serve children attending Breakfast with
Santa at the Booneville Community
Center recently. Phi Theta Kappa
members helped serve pancakes, read
stores and entertained the children with
a puppet show. Northeast’s Iota Zeta
chapter has been recognized as a Five
Star Chapter, the highest rating given.

Cheese Sale Update
Members of Northeast Mississippi
Community College’s Iota Zeta
chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor
society recently completed their biannual holiday cheese sale.
Proceeds from the sale go to fund
the many service projects of the
organization. Filling orders and
labeling the blocks of cheese with
Phi Theta Kappa logos are Rusty
Whitten and Sarah Shelton Members
sold approximately 950 two-pound
blocks of cheese.
Operation Christmas Child
Allyson Cartwright of Booneville, vice
president for scholarship of Northeast
Mississippi Community College’s Phi
Theta Kappa honor society, entertains
children attending Breakfast with Santa
at the Booneville Community Center
recently. Allyson read “How the Grinch
Stole Christmas,” following a puppet
show performed by other Phi Theta
Kappa Members.

Child. Officers of the honor society

Cards for the Troops
Beautifying Biloxi
Northeast PTK members recently gathered
for a BBQ meal while preparing Christmas
cards for our nation’s troops. Pictured

Mississippi’s Phi Theta Kappa honor
society’s regional officers recently put
together a work crew for a region wide
beautification and clean-up project on the
Gulf Coast. This project was part of Phi
Theta Kappa's International Service Project,
Keep America Beautiful. Northeast and
Itawamba students traveled together to the

Operation Green
OPERATION GREEN: Improving our
Communities, a partnership between Phi
Theta Kappa Honor Society and Keep
American Beautiful, focuses attention on the
environment by helping to improve
communities. Northeast Mississippi
Community College’s Iota Zeta chapter of
Phi Theta Kappa recently spent a day
helping the Northeast maintenance staff on
campus. Phi Theta Kappa officers assisting
