Ollerbrook Cottages Environmental Statement Our aims: To comply with legislation. To reduce our operating costs. To enhance our reputation as being environmentally aware. To offer quality self-catering accommodation in the Peak District National Park, whilst protecting the environment and wildlife. Waste Please sort waste for recycling as mentioned in the cottage information. Guests wishing to recycle may wish to recycle glass bottles, plastic bottles and newspaper in Edale public car park. Newspaper, tins, plastic and bottles can be recycled in Hope Public car park. Where possible we use recycled products, and are looking at ways of extending this use in all areas of our business. As a business we aim to recycle computer ink cartridges, and will use recycled paper and stationery as we replace existing supplies. Energy Where possible we are replacing traditional light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs when the existing bulb fails. Windows, where possible are double-glazed and draft free. Curtains over the exterior doors help reduce draft and heat loss. Solar powered lamps are used where possible to illuminate the pathways. Thermostatic values are fitted on the radiator valves; guests are welcome to reduce heat waste by turning these off when not in use. The boiler is serviced regularly to ensure efficiency. The television, when possible, is unplugged or switched off. Fridges and freezers are low energy A or B. Water We are investigating ways of collecting rainwater to water the garden and hanging baskets. Showers are available in all cottages as an alternative option to baths. Purchasing Where possible we buy in bulk to reduce packaging waste. Where possible we buy products made from recycled material. Cleaning is sometimes done with a steam cleaner, which reduces the use of environmentally damaging products. Transport Ollerbrook Cottages and Edale are accessible by train from Sheffield and Manchester. This local stopping service allows guests, a) to reach Edale by public transport, b) to use public transport whilst here. A regular Thursday delivery service of Peak District produce allows guests the option of not visiting the supermarket whilst in Edale. Guests can place an order prior to arrival. Guests can walk from the door, and explore a variety of walks in Edale without needing the car. Paula Greenlees, Ollerbrook Cottages, June 2007
