Identify the types of traffic (commercial shipping, fishing, leisure) and establish shipping movements / routes through which this traffic transits. This information can be sourced from The Irish Coast Guard, The Commissioners of Irish Lights, The Irish Naval Service, local harbour authorities, Fishing co-ops and sailing clubs etc. From this information determine the impact if any the proposed development may have on marine traffic. Where impact is likely, describe mitigating measures to be put in place to pr event interaction. Where it is perceived that there will not be any impact, a clear statement to this effect will be required and the grounds on which it is based. When the aforementioned information is submitted along with the application the Marine Safety Directorate will then be in a position to make an assessment. This procedure should expedite all applications from a safety of navigation perspective. The above will apply to all Offshore Electricity Generating Station applications in addition to an E.I.S. (where required). This Statement will now be mandatory with all Offshore Electricity Generating Station Licence and Lease Applications due to the risk to safe navigation and/or longterm ecological damage.
