Goals of the Training:
The goal of this training is to introduce systems librarians to various tools used to
customize ALEPH for specific library needs. Generally, a follow-up session will be
required for more in-depth troubleshooting.
Objectives:
By the end of the session, systems librarians will be able to
-
Expand and install a PC (GUI) client; customize and re-package a PC client
according to the site’s needs

Identify the differences between the BIB/HOL/ADM/AUT/CRD/ILL libraries, and the
ALEPH configuration tables associated with each
-
Modify ALEPH configuration tables using
o UTIL (utilities) menus
o UNIX – vi editor
o GUI Admin client
-
View a log file to troubleshoot server problems
-
Use the System Librarian Notebook to
o identify tables
o find use of tables (Database Management Guide)
o view Oracle table structure
o review Utilities (UTIL) menus
o see how all of the above relate to each other

Use basic Unix commands to move around on the server (including shortcuts)

Use UTIL menus to clean directories, view tables, check running processes, and
start/stop servers

Submit system librarian jobs via the Web Services menus

Customize a few forms and demonstrate the general principles of forms
