MK Hospital fully prepared for upcoming junior doctors’ industrial action Ahead of the impending 24-hour industrial action by junior doctors in England from the 10 to 11 February, Milton Keynes University Hospital has been working tirelessly to minimise disruption to our services. The hospital successfully ensured that the safety of our patients and the quality of our care was not impacted during the previous period of industrial action, and has used lessons learned from this to inform robust contingency plans for Wednesday. Patients in need of urgent and emergency care will continue to receive the treatment they need, when they need it. However, due to increased pressures on the hospital over this 24-hour period those in less urgent need of care may experience longer waiting times than normal and some planned clinics and operations have been postponed. Norovirus at Milton Keynes Hospital Some of our patients have been affected by vomiting and diarrhoea. We are asking you all to remain vigilant and do not visit our hospital if you have had symptoms of diarrhoea, and/or vomiting in the last 72 hours. Norovirus illness usually includes a sudden onset of nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Though people can feel quite uncomfortable, the illness is generally not serious. People infected with norovirus usually get better on their own in a few days, without treatment. It is highly contagious in all age groups and is common in our community. Read more... Junior doctor industrial action - An update We have cancelled approximately 108 outpatient appointments and 36 elective procedures (including some day cases) as a result of the junior doctor industrial action. We are working hard to ensure all appointments are rearranged as quickly as possible and apologise for any distress caused to patients. Patients will be contacted directly by the hospital to reschedule any cancelled appointments. If any patient is concerned, please contact the clinic number on your letter. Read more...
