MILTON KEYNES LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT NETWORK WELCOME… The Milton Keynes Leadership Development Network aims to provide high quality leadership development for aspiring and existing senior leaders in primary, secondary and special schools. It aims to provide training of a National quality, encourage the local sharing of best practice, support high quality succession planning in schools and develop relationships between schools that encourage collaborative approaches to leadership development such as shadowing, exchanges or bespoke secondments. Although hosted and led in Milton Keynes the Network is open to schools in other areas. The Leadership Development Network is run through the collaboration between the Denbigh Teaching School Alliance, the Milton Keynes Teaching School Alliance and the Leadership and Training Centre at Shenley Brook End School. As well as coordinating the network itself, the role of the Teaching School Alliances is also to ensure that network members are aware of the further opportunities in relation to Leadership Development, Succession Planning and Talent Management that they provide through both the National College Leadership Curriculum and through their bespoke programmes. Conference Success! July 2012 saw our first Leadership Development Conference which was a great success and a good example of the quality and range of speakers and activities we would like to provide on a regular basis. Explaining the theme of ‘Inspiring Leadership’, conference highlights included Carl Jarvis, Executive Head of Hartsholme Academy in Lincoln, who shared his school’s transformational journey from special measures to outstanding through his focus on immersive learning. We were also privileged to have the highly acclaimed education author/trainer Mike Hughes challenge our thinking on the leadership of teaching and learning. We also feel it is important to blend the national picture with the local, and were grateful to 3 Milton Keynes Headteachers who openly shared their own journeys to Headship. The feedback on the day was extremely positive with a real sense of expectation that this would become an annual event; with your support that is definitely the plan!
