Meeting Minutes of Somalia Logistics Cluster Nairobi, Kenya 30 August 2007 – 15:00 hours Venue: Somalia Logistics Cluster Somalia Support Secretariat, Conference Room, Kalson Tower Participants: NRC, CARE, Horn Relief, World Vision, OCHA, UNHCR-RSH, UNICEF, COSV, WFP (see attached attendance record) I. ISSUES DISCUSSED: 1. Security Update by participants CARE reported that participants attending workshop in Garowe were not immediately allowed to return back to Puntland Reported tension between local Militia and World Vision in Buale There was an armed attack in a hotel in Baidoa, but no casualties reported. 2. Review of Last Meeting Minutes, 16 Aug 2007 a. UNHAS CERF has granted a three-month extension for the inter-agency air cargo/passenger project offering subsidized flights into Somalia. UNHAS informed that the MoU will remain unchanged and also reminded all agencies to settle July/August bills by the 15 September. 3. Pre-positioning of Humanitarian Supplies (Ahead of rains/in response to Shabelle crisis) www.logisticscluster.org UNICEF has recently conducted an assessment and aim to increase their storage capacity in Merka, Baidoa and Wajid. NRC is planning shipments of NFI’s to Bossasso and Mogadishu in support of IDP’s 1 IS / Somalia Log Cluster/ 12-Feb-16 CARE is planning to ship humanitarian supplies and into Mogadishu in September and truck in humanitarian supplies through Mandera/ElWak to beneficiaries in Gedo. They also expect to increase procurement of humanitarian supplies ahead of the rains and in response to the crises in the Shabelle. COSV intend to pre-position supplies in Merka over the next weeks. So far, they have distributed NFI’s to 500 families in the Shabelle region and expect additional funding in order to increase the number of beneficiaries. WFP have pre-positioned stocks across South Central and increased storage capacity in key locations, in order to respond quickly to imminent demand for food aid. The prepositioning is also intended to minimize the negative effects on access experienced during the rainy season. Five new rub halls have been erected in Gedo. Two extra storage tents have been erected in Wajid. Two metal warehouses have been set up in Somaliland/Puntland with extra stock positioned in Bossasso. A permanent inter-agency storage tent with 500mt capacity will be set up in Wajid. An additional 15,000mt has been purchased in Kenya to increase total food deliveries from initially planned 40 to 55,000mt by the end of 2007. .
