ASD and ADHD Training Courses for Autumn 2013/2014
MAIN is pleased to announce that due to popular demand we have diversified our accredited training
courses to now include ADHD. As well as continuing our Level 2 and 3 Understanding Autism we will
also be running Level 2 and 3 ADHD courses throughout the year.
MAIN offers a wide range of specialised workshops, which are tailored to give practical hints and tips in
specific areas ASD, such as challenging behaviours and Social Stories, along with smaller workshops for
people on the spectrum around relationships, friendships, social networking, bullying & sex.
MAIN is the only accredited training provider in the North of England to offer both training courses at
competitive rates.
We bring to you Training Dates for the rest of the year.
Firstly we would like for you to MEET THE TRAINER: I AM HELEN
I deliver training for MAIN – Taking Autism Personally.
In a 16 year career covering a range of educational/community settings supporting people with Autism
Spectrum Disorders (ASD) from ages 3-45 years, I have enjoyed a range of roles associated with the
condition. Completing my Bachelor’s degree (B Phil) in Autism in 2011, I am now in my final year of my
Master’s Degree (M Ed) also in Autism.
Seven years as ASD Co-ordinator at Stockton Riverside College led to me gaining a teaching qualification.
My duties included interviewing learners for support; suggesting appropriate classroom strategies; working
1:1 and with small groups of learners on their specific needs.
My early career was spent as a Teaching Assistant working with children with ASD including: a mainstream
primary working 1:1; at a unit at a mainstream school and a special school with an autistic unit.
I am also the parent of a young adult with ASD and therefore have the ability to be able to see the
difficulties ASD presents from both the professionals’ and parents’/carers’ perspective.
As 40% of people who have ASD also have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), from
September 2013 MAIN will be providing courses in ADHD in their training schedule. I am one of just 20
people qualified in the UK who can offer the NOCN accredited courses in ADHD.
Our accredited training programmes have always been highly acclaimed by the awarding body
My training is lively, fun and interactive. Whenever possible people who have been diagnosed with the
condition are invited to guest speak in order to provide their own perspective of the condition.
People who have attended have said:
“I feel empowered after attending this course. I can now look at my son and smile and appreciate his
qualities rather than console myself about his differences as I did before.”
(S from Newcastle)
“This training has given me the skills and knowledge I need to get my organisation through autism
accreditation. Great fun too and met some interesting people.”
(S from Edinburgh).
“Thank you Helen for this course. Learning never used to be this good when I was at school! I will
recommend it to my colleagues.”
(M from Middlesbrough).
