Opportunities are lurking all over the country as well as abroad and fully qualified and academically equipped specialists are in demand. 2. What will the workplace be like? Its one of the few career choices you can make, ensuring to stay involved with your passion of playing golf or be involved with any associated activities. It is a highly competitive environment being run on clear business principles. Working with people is compulsory and having sufficient communication skills will be a big asset to your success in the industry. 3. What instruments, tools or materials will I work with? Dependent on which specialization field you choose. 4. What are the pros and cons of this career? Having the choice of making your passion, your career; you will not feel obligated to go to work any given time due to the fact that you enjoy it so much. Which educational institutions offer this course? Tshwane University of Technology 7. What compulsory subjects and marks do I require to enter? A senior certificate accompanied by a record of achievements and/ or involvement in golf. Admission is subject to a selection process where only a limited amount of students will be allowed. Applicants might be required to undergo various evaluation testing including a playing ability test. Recommended (not compulsory) subjects: Biology, Mathematics, Science, Accounting, and Business Economics. 8. Do they specify an M- count as part of their entry requirements? What is the duration of the course? 4 years 14. How does the weekly programme look like for a golf student? Does the PGA course influence my amateur status? No. While studying you are still an amateur golfer and can compete in amateur tournaments, thus you do not loose your amateur status 16. When am I eligible for PGA membership? When completing the academic requirements according to PGA Standards. You will have to do 2000 notional/experiential hours in the industry, pass your Teaching ability test (TAT), Pass your PGA Playing ability test (PAT) and pass your practical examination at the PGA. After completing these pre-requisites you may apply for full membership at the Professional Golfers Association of South Africa.
