Cognitive Decline Symposium:
An update from bench to bedside investigations
Coming this fall, the Cognitive Decline Symposium brings clinicians and investigators together
discuss the pathophysiology of cognitive decline and how factors such as surgery and anesth
may affect this phenomenon.
Visiting Professor Zhongcong Xie, Director of the Geriatric Anesthesia Unit, Massachusetts Gen
Hospital and Harvard Medical School, joins several prominent UCSF clinicians and investigator
discuss the pathophysiology of cognitive decline and how factors such as surgery and anesth

Re-Pairing: Having deeper conversations after difficult times

Disappointments, arguments, fights, feeling misunderstood and distant from one another, gett
giving the "silent treatment" - these dynamics are woven into our interactions with even the fa
friends we love and care for the most as we experience the inevitable disappointments of
relationships. A cancer diagnosis often agitates these challenges with the addition of stress, fe
physical changes. This workshop will introduce specific ways to help couples and individuals "r
and reconnect deeply after difficult times, and will include ample time for discussion.

We are looking for volunteers to provide hands-on assistance on both Saturday and Sunday, O
