This is just a brief guide for emergency numbers, etc. Please be sure to call the participating agencies for current and accurate information for your area. Emergency Numbers State of Emergency Declared Disaster (all blue links open a new window) #1 To CALL- Federal Emergency Management Agency-www.FEMA.GOV 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) Will be hard to get through, but keep calling and stay in the hold time (could be 10-20 minutes) You can also apply online by clicking the blue link above and then press the button that appears- "Apply For Assistance" Will need social security numbers of household members. May qualify for compensation if you need to house other individuals, for providing food, supplies, etc. Also may be able to be compensated if an individual has to pay boarding during the storm. Call FEMA to see if you qualify. FEMA will start you application, will ask if you have damages, if you have insurance coverage on your house, will ask if your home has been damaged, personal property damage, income of household individuals, etc. and will issue you a case number. They will indicate if you qualify for compensation. If it is approved for your state, FEMA can also provide you with a list of FEMA participating Hotels and motels if your residence is deemed to be inaccessible, unliveable, or you have deemed it otherwise unacceptable. FEMA may also be able to provide generators for those individuals with qualifying and documented medical needs. Hotels are often very had to find during and after the storm. Reserve yours NOW as close to your hometown as possible, but out of the path of the storm. If you cannot find one, add your name to the hotel waiting lists. One may come available Give good contact info. Be sure to have plenty of gas if traveling. You may not find any for a while. For FEMA participating hotels you will need Names, Social Security Numbers, Proof of Residence, ID or license, FEMA case # and anything else they may require. Without a FEMA case number, you will not be compensated. Contact FEMA for eligibility requirements. Church individualized relief efforts Emergency Disaster Food Stamps Be Early and Ready for very long lines and possible lengthy waits. As always, take very good pictures of all your damages (house, clothing, food losses, etc.,) document and keep a record of everything-receipts, etc. Try to prepare yourself for at least a week of no electricity, food, clothing, gas, and water.
